Gamers are not liking Lieutenant Williams Halo Campaign Evolved character.
Team Halo’s latest remake of the 1st Halo is being made fun of for writing chops.
But why are the women in particular being brought up and is this really as bad they say?
Lieutenant Williams Halo
In short the infamous Lieutenant Williams Halo Remake character is poorly written. But in full the writing in general for this remake is piss poor. All the added scenes and even the redone ones worsen the experience.
The mystery and mystique is gone in favor for blunt quirky unfunny quips. However this original character introduced in the prequel mission highlights the worst of it all. Its so bad even you have developers from the Original Halo games dunking on her!
Nile Sankey the campaign designer for Halo 3 expressed his concerns for her.
But let me break down why this new gal is annoying gamers upon first sight. Firstly no its not because she is just a woman. If that were the case Kat, Cortana and Miranda would get hate. However for some reason they do not get any. Although Cortana gets it sometimes for her design but thats another topic!
in fact Lieutenant Williams Halo Campaign’s OC is the only woman gamers are mad about in Halo (barring the TV show). This comes from this main point… Secondly she thinks she is cool but she is not. Mainly the issue here is a cool character that is written by a lame person IRL.
For some reason the writers think that having a character say they are badass makes them so. Your first introduction to this lady is her sitting upon corpses of Covenant. Chief immediately says thats impressive but she decides to turn in into a backhand diss at him and the Spartan.
Because that is how you make the players like a new character. Someone who is immediate hostile and stand offish.
Women Halo At Me
Although stand ofish characters can be done well Lieutenant Williams Halo Campaigns lady is not. She is overly cliche and fan fiction esc to the point of annoyance. The game and thus the writers are constantly trying to convince you that she is super cool. She constantly boasts herself and demand the cheif.
And this culminates were her given volunteering to heroically sacrifice herself to push back the enemy. Thirdly the look of the head of Tiger company is just off. This goes for nearly all the cast but she especially has a bad case of resting bitch face.
No she does not need to look like Eve from Stella Blade. But my word she does not look appealing in any way shape or form. Which is strange because the other female soldiers look more convincing and nicer on the eyes.
Lastly the issue with Lieutenant Williams Halo Campaign’s mistake is the potential. I get what they were going for with the distrusting soldier motif. But the setup is just all wrong in context. You first interact with her by saving her and the company from enemies. However after thanking the major she turns to you and says not impressed.
Even if Spartan’s stole her sweet roll her attitude after being saved is just all wrong. Kat was cool because she was a convincing soldier that added to the story. Williams here is just another stain on the legacy of Halo 1. Thank you Team Halo for adding this really likeable and interesting character!
