LG’s first promotional affair for the OLED line of products ended up a close-run thing as Khaled and Fox duked it out in the Fortnite servers across three rounds of play.
Over the last few years, Fortnite has risen to unmatched popularity so much so that if you don’t know about it, you will be considered to be living under a rock. As the game garnered fans around the globe, many celebrities were fascinated by it too and started being involved in Fortnite-related events. The most recent case being the high-profile match featuring actress Megan Fox and musician DJ Khaled as part of a partnership with LG Electronics USA’s OLED TVs.
OLED-powered big plays
This 90-minute match between Fox and Khaled was live-streamed on the official Twitch channel of Evil Geniuses on Wednesday as part of the latest “Only on OLED” promotion, making it the first match in a series of Celebrity Gaming Showdowns. Throughout the match, Evil Geniuses talent Justin “FearItSelf” Kats coached DJ Khaled while Megan Fox was coached by the legendary Evil Geniuses CSGO coach Wilton “zews” Prado.
The pre-game statements were as follows:
How it all went down
Essentially, both DJ Khaled and Megan Fox were to participate in a set number of duos matches along with their allocated partners. There were a total of three rounds, two of 20 minutes each and the final one spanning over 10 minutes with the number of matches played not being of concern as the total points were accumulated based on eliminations, revivals and knockdowns in each match. The team with the highest points at the end of these three rounds would be crowned victorious.
The points were allocated as follows:
- 3 Points for Eliminations
- 2 Points for Revivals
- 1 Point for Knockdowns
- 10 Points for Victory Royale
After the first round, DJ Khaled was in the lead with 47 points and Megan Fox at 32 points. After an intense second round, the points of both teams were almost tied at 130 each; however, DJ Khaled and FearItSelf managed to secure 7 extra points in the last thirty seconds by eliminating players.
After consecutive defeats in the first and second round, Megan and zews were extremely concentrated and determined to win the final round. They had an added benefit at hand: all points in the last round were doubled! This is where the tables turned for Megan and Zews as they managed to secure a Victory Royale propelling them up to 180 points.
As the clock ticked signaling the end of the third round, FearItSelf and DJ Khaled struggled to find opponents to gain enough points from eliminations to rival the other team. Unfortunately, they found no one and had to accept their defeat: their team finished round three at 189 points while their rivals Megan Fox and Zews ended up winning the showdown with 210 points to their name.
More Ultimate Gaming Showdowns to come
Given the performances of Megan’s team in the first two rounds, them winning the showdown was unexpected and rather shocking. LG TV owners can have unprecedented access to behind-the-scenes events, extra content from the Ultimate Gaming Showdown, and the option to replay it anytime they want on LG’s exclusive FOMO Channel app. Participants and battles for future Celebrity Gaming Showdowns similar to this event will be revealed during the year.
