The rookie outfit has dominated the competition to secure a memorable win.
A French success story
It’s been just the first year of Karmine Corp as a League of Legends organization in the professional scene and they’ve looked flawless so far. First, they won the LFL (French League) Regular Season with a 13-5 record, sweeping Misfits Premier in the Finals, and now they are the EU Masters champions.
Created by French streamers Kameto and Prime in 2020, the club have skyrocketed the viewership numbers in the OTP Twitch channel (and its co-streams), with the main channel peaking at over 370 000 exclusive viewers last Sunday during the Finals.
Placed in Group D along with BT Excel, FC Schalke 04 Evolution and Cream Real Betis, Karmine Corp dominated the EU Masters Group Stage with a 6-0 record, advancing to the playoffs.
To the quarter-finals and beyond
Karmine Corp secured 2-1 wins in the quarterfinals and the semifinals alike over SAIM SE SuppUp and UCAM Esports,to set up a meeting with BT Excel for all the marbles.
Thanks to their brilliant early game, Karmine Corp were able to secure early objectives and be ahead in the dragon count that was key in the late game as they clinched dragon soul in games 2 and 4.
Throwing game 1 after BT Excel were trailing by 10k gold, KC’s strong early game and snowball helped their carries lead them to victory. Lucas “Saken” Fayard, KC’s mid laner, had an 11/6/11 performance in game 2 on Corki and a 7/2/9 on Renekton in game 4.
Matthew “xMatty” Coombs, the AD Carry, shined especially on Aphelios in Game 2 (8/1/13) and Jinx in Game 3 (3/0/10).
Karmine Corp, as their players’ performances have already drawn some attention from LEC teams, and Adam “Adam” Maanane is seen as a candidate to become the new Fnatic’s top laner ahead of the Summer Split.
Although their initial idea was to keep the same roster for at least one more split, this seems aspirational at best with so many franchised teams registering interest in the players. Of course, Karmine Corp is also one of the candidates to fill the LEC spot of Schalke 04 should they end up selling their LEC slot.
Even the president of France, Emmanuel Macron congratulated the French team after their title win.
This is the third EU Masters trophy for a French team after Misfits Premier and LDLC OL. No other country’s team has managed to win the title more than once. It remains to be seen whether Karmine Corp can keep up their performances in the LFL and EU Masters Summer Split.
