Many PC gamers are starting to use Special K to enhance their experience.
It has made old gems playable and modern releases more stable.
But what is this tool, and what just makes it so damn special?
Use Special K Now
Go to their website here and download the software. There are two versions: the stable build and the experimental build. Use your freedom of choice and choose either one.
Now you have access to one of the most handy bits of PC gaming software released in years.
But what does this software do you’re asking, and how do I use Special K?
Well, as the website states, Special K is a multipurpose tool that has a wide range of use. It’s a frame limiter, XInputer, texture swaper, and more. Also, it’s free and constantly being updated to work with the latest games.
Although it is handy and can work with almost any game, the focus is mainly DirectX 11/12 releases.
As with all things PC, the phrase your results may vary applies. But for me, this tool has made playing Fallout 3 and Stalker seamless. Although it can do all this fancy modern stuff, I find it’s fantastic at running older DirectX 3D games and stabilizing their performance.

Seriously, I am alt-tabbing in and out of Fallout 3, and there have been 0 crashes!
Also, it’s a great in-game monitor for nerds like me who like to see numbers and stats. Fantastic for diagnosing any issues your system may be having and telling you what settings to turn off and on.
If you use Special K in-game, it will give you a full rundown of temps, speeds, percentage usage, and what exactly the game is running through.

Also for GPU benchmark bros, that’s a reason right there to use Special K.
HDR Input Into My Veins
Firstly, just for full clarity here, I am not in any way affiliated with the Special K devs. I am just a guy who stumbled on an X post singing its praises and doing the same right now. Plus they do not pay for adverts; trust me, I asked!
But for those wanting to mess around with live shaders and in-game textures, use Special K!
It allows you to replace the textures of in-game files mid-gameplay. Also, for certain DirectX titles, it lets you adjust the shaders, changing the entire look and feel to your liking.

Some of you may be thinking, I don’t muck about with that geeky stuff, and that’s fine. But when you are finding a modern/old game is crashing hard and you do not know why, come back to this page and thank me in the inbox.

Also for the screenshot bros out there, this baby has it in spades. It injects HDR capabilities into X11 games and allows full custom screenshots. So use Special K for those sick screencaps of the only time you beat a boss. Or you know that one Japanese game you hide on your Steam library public list.
