Discord is always here to bring more exciting ways for us to socialize with our friends and communities. They have previously rolled out the sticker reaction in the voice channel and in April 2023, they introduced Discord Soundboard.
Discord Soundboard is a way to react in a Discord voice channel with brief audio clips. Once activated, the sound can be heard once by everyone in the same voice channel. It is a way to express yourself or react to a conversation during your time in the voice channel.
Soundboard is not an entirely new concept. Traditionally, it is an electronic device for mixing audio signals. It has then evolved digitally as an application that catalogs and plays many audio clips.
As of now, Discord Soundboard is only available on the desktop app. Mobile users will hear the Soundboard sounds whenever activated, however, they cannot play the sounds themselves.
Every server will have eight sound slots for them to use. Discord also provides six extra sounds in its Soundboard. You can have additional slots with Server Boosting, where you can unlock the slots by tiers.
- Tier 1: 24 slots
- Tier 2: 35 slots
- Tier 3: 48 slots
You are free to use all eight sounds of your server plus six Discord sounds. If you want to use the sounds on other servers, you will have to subscribe to Discord Nitro.
How do you use Soundboard sounds?
To start using your Discord Soundboard, all you have to do is join a voice channel on the server. You will then see an icon on the right side of your voice channel’s widget bar.
You can also go to your Soundboard through the voice channel’s video panel, where you can see the icon on the left side of the panel.
In the pop-up display, you can see all the sounds available for you to use. Once you activate a sound, the audio file will play for everyone in the voice channel, along with the sound’s associated emoji pop-up.
You can always adjust the volume of the Discord Soundboard personally to suit you. Just go to User Settings > Voice & Video > Soundboard > Soundboard Volume and adjust the slider according to your liking.
How to upload your own sounds to your Soundboard
This is where the fun and creativity begin. You can create sounds that are reflective of your server community, where you know people can have fun and express themselves using the sounds.
To upload a new Soundboard sound to a server, you will need either permission to “Manage Server” or own the said server.
When you have decided what sounds you want to upload on your Discord Soundboard, you have to export the sounds according to the following requirements:
- File type: MP3
- File size: 512kb
- File length: Up to 5 seconds
When you have the audio file, you can then go to your Server Settings>Soundboard>Upload Sound and upload your sounds over there. If the file is more than five seconds, you can adjust it in the provided bar.
You can also give a customized name together with an emoji. Lastly, adjust the volume of your sound, and you can start spamming your Soundboard!
Where can you find sounds for Discord Soundboard?
Since Discord Soundboard is pretty flexible with the audio requirements, you can get it from any audio clip.
There are a few websites that offer free and paid options for a variety of Discord sound options, such as Voicemod and Epidemic Sound.
Just keep in mind that whatever sounds you decide to upload must follow Discords’ Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, including making sure the sounds you upload respect the intellectual property rights of others.
Are there other soundboard options for Discord?
Before the launch of Discord Soundboard, there are many soundboard applications created for Discord users, such as Resanance and Voxal Voice Changer. There are also online soundboards you can use, such as Myinstants, SoundboardGuy, and SoundboardGuys.
Through the applications, you can get more variations of sounds for your Discord. There are also more features like voice modifiers and soundboard key binds.
As Discord still does not enable their Soundboard for mobile, mobile users can also install other Soundboard applications.
There are a lot of mobile software out there including Podcast Soundboard for Discord Mobile and Soundboard Creator Soundpad.
The applications can still be used for Discord, but they cannot be synced with Discord Soundboard. You may opt to use other soundboard applications as Discord’s free option is pretty limited.

One of the most popular websites to get sounds for Discord is Voicy. You can find over 500K+ unique sounds on their platform, which are all free to download. Moreover, Voicy offers features to create your own sounds and make personal collections. There are a few more websites that offer such free and paid options for a variety of Discord sound options, such as Voicemod and Epidemic Sound.
