Wondering how to get 2fa on Fortnite? Having an additional security layer can help secure your account against hackers or other malcontents trying to take advantage of Fortnite’s huge player base.
Two-factor authentication (2FA) means that anyone trying to access your account will need an additional form of identity verification beyond your password.
There are multiple different forms of 2FA, but they are all fairly easy to activate. For better cybersecurity, it’s encouraged to use 2FA whenever possible.
For Epic Games specifically, having 2FA lets an account claim some free games on the Epic Games store. It’s also a requirement to send gifts in Fortnite and compete in competitive events like the Fortnite World Cup.

How to get 2FA on Fortnite
To enable 2FA, first go to the Account page.
Then click on the Password & Security tab.
Under the header for “Two-Factor Authentication” there will be three options for 2FA.
First is a Two-factor Authentication App: this will require you to download and login to an app on your mobile device. When you log in to your account, it will ask you for a one-time security code provided by the app.
Epic Games uses the following third-party authenticator apps:
- Google Authenticator
- Last Pass Authenticator
- Microsoft Authenticator
- Authy
The second option is email authentication. Upon logging in, you will receive a security code in your Epic Games’ associated email address. You’ll need to enter this code to complete the login.
The third option is SMS Code authentication. This operates similarly to email authentication, but with your provided phone number. You’ll receive an SMS on that phone number with the needed security code.
Once you’ve chosen your preferred 2FA method, click Set Up on the one you want to use.
You should then receive, as appropriate, a security code by email, SMS or through your authenticator app. Enter the code and you should see a green success notification on the website.
A confirmation message will also be sent to your email, and your account page will update to reflect that 2FA is enabled.
If you set up more than one, click the three dots for the option that you prefer to designate it as your primary 2FA method.

What to do if 2FA is not working?
There can be some frustrating situations where 2FA might not work.
In those cases, don’t panic. It might be some easily solved, simple problems.
- First, double-check that your 2FA settings are properly set up. For example, make sure your SMS code is being sent to the right number.
- Second, make sure you entered the code correctly. If you misspelled the security code, it won’t login.
- Third, clear your cache. It’s a cliche when trying to fix browser issues, but it might be mistakenly saving incorrect login information.
- Fourth, check for updates. If your Fortnite or 2FA app isn’t up to date, then it could cause errors in verifying logins.
If you’ve done all that and it’s still not working, it might be time to get in touch with Fortnite’s support team.
You can sign into Fortnite and fill out an online form, giving as much detail as you can. Alternatively, go through the website to contact the support team via email or live chat.
