Changing your Summoner Name in League of Legends is simple but costly.
Whether you’re re-branding, have a better name idea, or you just want something new, changing your Summoner Name (the name that is seen in-game) in League of Legends is relatively easy.
It’s worthwhile to note that your username (which is what’s used to log in to your League of Legends account and access your information) isn’t the same as your Summoner name.
How to change your Summoner Name in League of Legends
Under the “Shop” menu icon (it’s the one that looks like a coin stack), players can find the account icon (the one that contains an ambiguous person and a settings gear).
Upon clicking it, players will be redirected to their account page. Underneath the account options, there’s a product for sale called, “Summoner Name Change.” There are two ways a player can purchase this: through Blue Essence (BE) or Riot Points (RP).
Blue essence is one of the two primary currencies used to unlock content in League of Legends. It can be earned through rewards, event missions, disenchanting champion shards, and various other ways. As it is the “free” currency (meaning that you don’t have to pay real-world money to earn it), you will need 13,000 BE to unlock the “Summoner Name Change.”
If you don’t have enough BE to purchase the name change, then you can purchase Riot Points. Riot Points are the second form of currency that can be found in League of Legends. RP can be purchased through real currency and can be used to purchase extra features. To buy the “Summoner Name Change” product you will need 1,300 RP, which equates to roughly $10 USD.
You will also have to use the “desired name” search feature to see if the name you’d like is available. If it is available, the BE and RP purchasing options will unlock, and you can purchase your new summoner name.
An important thing to note, however, is that if a name is deemed offensive, it will be changed by the support team at Riot and you will not be refunded. So, please choose your name carefully and respectfully.
