Sometimes you don’t want people knowing you’re online with whatever you are using, and that is okay, hence why most online applications nowadays allow you to change your status from online to offline in some form.
Well League of Legends is no different, and you can do just that with ease. Whether it be because you don’t want your friends seeing you’re online spending more RP you probably shouldn’t on the new skins, or whether you just want to relax without the pressure of people seeing that you are inting your ranked games, appearing offline can be easily achieved.
How to appear offline using Deceive
Deceive is a software you can download from Github to help you truly appear offline in League of Legends and other titles, such as VALORANT and Legends of Runeterra too!
The reason we use Deceive instead of anything else is because it allows you to still chat with people that you want to, but without appearing online in the League of Legends client.
Deceive works on the basis of altering your presence globally, which means that whilst you are offline, you can still see who is online on your friends list, meaning you can play with the players you want to, and avoid being guilt-tripped into queuing up with your hardstuck Yasuo main friends!
How to install Deceive
So downloading and installing Deceive onto your computer is fairly straightforward, but nonetheless, we’ve broken the steps down into four simple steps, so it couldn’t be easier to appear offline in League of Legends!
Oh, and by the way, before you start downloading Deceive, make sure that your League of Legends game, client, and Riot client are all closed and shut down.
- Follow this link to the Deceive page on GitHub.
- Select and download the latest version of Deceive from the Releases part of the page, which will give you the Deceive.exe file in your downloads folder.
- Once Deceive is downloaded, run and install the application ready to be used.
- Finally, open up League of Legends, and you’re done!
If you have installed Deceive successfully, you will see a new group on your Social tab on the right-hand side of your client. This is called Deceive, which has one lonely friend in it known as “Deceive Active!”. This means that Deceive is working successfully and you are now appearing offline to your whole friends list, as well as the rest of the world!
How to turn Deceive off
Turning off Deceive is incredibly easy, all you have to do is go to your system tray, on the bottom right of your task bar.
You will see Deceive in here once you have opened it up, simply click the application logo, and click the check mark that says “Enabled”. Once you have done so and the check mark is no longer there, you will appear online again!

Will you get banned for using Deceive?
The answer is no! Riot Games has come out and said that they will not ban any accounts using Deceive as it doesn’t alter the state of the game whatsoever.
We do think though, that Deceive may become obsolete in the new future, as this is a feature Riot Games do not currently have in League of Legends.
Whilst you can appear away in League of Legends, this is very limited as to what you can do when you are away, so we can imagine that Riot Games will implement the feature to appear offline very soon, increasing League of Legends’ built-in privacy tools.
