How many people play Fortnite? The gaming sensation of 2017 is still going hard in 2023 but does it still put numbers like it used to?
There are different statistics to track Fortnite’s performance, but it’s still going strong.

How many people play Fortnite
There is no official player count. Epic Games, the developer and publisher for Fortnite, has not given updated player numbers.
In 2020, Epic Games reported that there were over 350 million registered accounts, which increased to 400 million in 2021.
While this gives an upper limit for the absolute total, it is not an accurate representation of the actual number of players. Registered accounts don’t necessarily translate to an active player base.
Third-party sources that track player counts has given a rough variable estimate.
To get a sense of how many people play Fortnite per month, it had an average count of around 230 million active accounts in September 2023.
However, this doesn’t necessarily represent accounts that logged in and played. Sources like Esports.net estimate to be closer to around 80 million.
Of that number, per Esports.net, Epic Games stated that Fortnite averages 2 million players online. So it’s likely that there tends to be 2 million players globally actively in a lobby at any given time.
The overall Fortnite player count peaked in December 2020, when 15.3 million players joined in for the one-day Galactus event.

Is Fortnite still popular?
Fortnite is still one of the most popular multiplayer games of all time. It’s true that it’s not the cultural phenomenon that overtook the world in the late 2010s. However, it’s still one of the most played games in the world.
On PC, it rivals other huge multiplayer titles like Roblox, Minecraft, League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, Destiny 2, and Grand Theft Auto V.
It also maintains one of the most lucrative partnership deals with major entertainment brands. Over the past month alone, it boasts updates that showcase the “Prince of Reggaeton” J Balvin, Ahsoka Tano from Disney’s Star Wars, and a return for popular anime My Hero Academia.
With great cultural capital, Fortnite is still very much one of the biggest games and definitely one of the most well-known.
