Ever wonder how many people are playing League of Legends right now?
Although the Riot title has been around for years, getting a precise player count can be tricky.
But here is how to check how many players are online right now.
How Many People Are Playing League of Legends Right Now Online?
Riot Games released League of Legends way back in 2009 and is played by many to this day. Although the game has made many improvements since its first release, it still has no in-game total counter accessible in the client.
However, there is a simple solution online that can inform us. Using the website Playercount, we can check the concurrent players for any popular title.
As of writing this article, the current player count according to the website is 2,484,267! Also, according to the figures, the most densely populated country with current players is the USA, accounting for 14.4%. Then followed Turkey and Brazil.
But we must also take into account how many of these are real players or bot accounts. Also, a lot of players like to leave the client running in the background while actually not playing the game. So we would estimate that if you reduce that number down to closer to 2 million, that’s about the right amount.
Also, keep in mind whether or not players are using VPNs. We would expect to see China high up on the list given its popularity there and their population. But a lot of Chinese players play with VPNs.
But why does Riot not just show how many current players are online, like Steam does?
Why Does Riot Not Show Live Player Count?
Even though it is a handy figure for some, companies sometimes like to hide their current user base online.
For both good and financially dubious intentions. Take Netflix hiding its figures, for example. You can just tell stockholders that the number is going up! It is a bit dodgey when companies are not transparent with this figure. But it is within their rights as a private company.
But it would be handy for League as it could inform players of any issues with the current servers if the current player base shows a low figure. But Riot would prefer not to show how many players are online. Even though we know they are certainly not starving for players,.
Riot has the right to hide or show this figure if they so please. Why would you worry about what a private, multimillion-dollar company keeps to itself?
All jokes aside, it would be nice to have just for convenience sake. If enough payers asked, then perhaps we could receive it, but we have bigger problems, right? Well, you don’t because you play League, but we are talking about other people here!
