Tough news for some gamers as Helldivers 2 never added PvP, according to developers.
The hit new Co-op sequel to Helldivers 1 has been getting wide acclaim on Steam since its release.
But the developers have dropped a small bomb on those hoping for some player-on-player action!
Arrowhead Says Helldivers 2 Is Never Adding PvP
Citizens have been taking up arms and doing their parts for the new Helldivers 2 co-op game.
Many gamers have been enjoying the switch to a third-person perspective and fighting new dynamic aliens. It’s truly a great time right now for roughnecks and friends looking for that Starship Troopers fix.
But some rough news for our more hostile roughneck soldiers: CEO Johan Pilested states that Helldivers 2 will “never” get a PvP mode. Apparently, this is because they want to avoid encouraging toxic tendencies and behaviors within the community.
In a response to a fan on X Twitter, he claims, “We want an environment that is supportive, fun, and where we are all fighting on the same side!”
Some gamers have responded positively to this finding solace in a developer sticking to their game focus. Others also respect the developers for not succumbing to modern tropes and just focusing on improving their main focus of gameplay.
Others responded on Twitter, saying that it is a shame to see developers scared of adding PvP.
Pilestedt responded to some of these claims, saying that they are “not scared” of PvP but simply want to avoid the natural toxicity that comes with it. The claim can be made that the game already has some PvP aspects to it with its competitive point system and in-game features.
But this could be seen as the developers also trying to avoid direct comparison with other PvP titles, such as COD.
However, players looking at a co-op game and asking to make it not co-op is a bit off. This switch of style has worked before for some developers. Let’s not forget that Fortnite in the early days was a co-op game!
But as the developers say, there are plenty of alternatives.
Game Details And Playstyle
The game also includes friendly fire, like in the first installment. For players really looking to take one out on teammates, there is an option. This may not help keep comrades around for long, but it is there!
HELLDIVERSTM 2 is a 3rd-person squad-based shooter that sees the elite forces of the Helldivers battling. Win an intergalactic struggle to rid the galaxy of rising alien threats.
From a 3rd-person perspective, players use a variety of weapons (pistols, machine guns, flamethrowers). Also stratagems (turrets, airstrikes, etc.) to shoot and kill the alien threats. Players can also aim down the sights for a more accurate first-person camera view.
Combat is accompanied by frequent sprays of blood and dismemberment as players exterminate the alien forces or players and squad mates are hit by environmental explosions or friendly fire. Enemy encampments and battlefield environments depict bloodstains and dismembered corpses.
