Superweek of LCS spring split is upon us, and we already have a major upset. Amidst all the matches that took place on the first day of Superweek, Golden Guardians vs. Team Liquid certainly stole the headlines. Golden Guardians, who have had an average split so far, managed to defeat first placed Team Liquid.
Golden Guardians were impressive right out of the gates. Early trade in the bot lane resulted in both teams trading kills. However, Golde Guardians had more pressure in the lanes, which allowed them to secure the first two Drakes. Team Liquid had more kills and led 5 kills to 2 at one point. That said, Golden Guardians had superior map control, especially around objectives.
In the mid-game, both teams went back and forth trading kills. A team fight broke down near the bot lane, which initially looked heavily in Favor of Team Liquid as they managed to take down 4 members of Golden Guardians while only losing 2. However, Nicholas Antonio “Ablazeolive” Abbott came clutch for Golden Guardians as he brilliantly maneuvered the fight to take down three members of Team Liquid.
Team Liquid did try to delay the game, but Golden Guardians secured the Baron Nashor and cracked Team Liquid’s base subsequently. As a last resort, Team Liquid tried to sweep Golden Guardians near the Baron Nashor, but it did not come to fruition. Instead, Golden Guardians aced Team Liquid and closed the game.
Although Team Liquid lost the game, it’s worth noting that their start player Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in did not play. The exact reasons for his absence have not been revealed, but it was confirmed CoreJJ is having some personal issues. Whatever the case may be, Team Liquid is still sitting on the first spot. On the other hand, Golden Guardians move to fifth position with their win over Team Liquid.
