The Global Esports Federation has revealed the three titles ahead of the Commonwealth Esports Championships taking place in August 2022.
The Global Esports Federation (GEF) promotes the credibility, legitimacy, and prestige of esports. They convene athletes, players, and industry leaders together on one inclusive platform. With a mission to cultivate competition along with developing communities and the connection between sport, esports, and technology.
The Commonwealth Esports Championships (CEC) will see players compete in Dota 2, eFootball, and Rocket League and will take place at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham from August 6th-7th 2022.
The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) is the organization responsible for the direction and control of the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games, and for delivering on the vision of the Commonwealth Sports Movement: to build peaceful, sustainable, and prosperous communities globally by inspiring Commonwealth Athletes to drive the impact and ambition of all Commonwealth Citizens through Sport.
Like other Commonwealth events, the CEC will see players from across the Commonwealth compete for medals in their respective titles. All three game titles will feature a Women’s Category and an Open Category.
“Alongside the GEF, we are delighted to unveil three major titles for the Commonwealth Esports Championships in Birmingham this summer.”
Katie Sadleir, CEO of the Commonwealth Games Federation.
“There is no doubt this innovative and exciting event will create new learnings and opportunities for us to further explore esports,” commented Katie Sadleir, CEO of the Commonwealth Games Federation.
Besides the event, the two parties will host the Commonwealth Esports Forum at the same venue on August 5th, 2022. The CEC will act as a separate entity from the Commonwealth Games.
“Esports has connected millions of young people across the Commonwealth, providing entertainment and a vital sense of community.”
Nigel Huddleston, Commonwealth Games Minister.
“The Commonwealth Esports Championships is a major vote of confidence in the West Midlands’ and UK’s thriving esports industry and an exciting chance to look at how this can be brought into the Commonwealth Sport Movement,” said Nigel Huddleston, Commonwealth Games Minister.
Dota 2, eFootball, and Rocket League are excellent gaming titles to promote esports and gaming to an audience who might not be familiar with either industry.
