Thoma is the latest character joining the expanding roster of Genshin Impact.
Hu Tao’s banner is now live and has introduced the new character Thoma to the game. The Chief Retainer of the Kamisato Clan is a four-star character and a Pyro user. Like many recently released characters, Thoma is primarily a support DPS that excels in providing a shield to teammates. To help players that have Thoma, here is a brief guide on how to effectively use him on the battlefield.
Thoma’s Skills
As mentioned before, Thoma’s gameplay revolves around shielding allies. He doesn’t boast the highest of damage but is more of a defensive unit. Here is a rundown of all his abilities:
- Normal Attack: Performs up to four spear strikes in a row.
- Charged Attack: Consumes Stamina and leaps forward to deal damage.
- Plunging Attack: Plunges from mid-air to the ground below, inflicting damage on all enemies in his route and dealing AoE DMG upon impact.
- Elemental Skill (Blazing Blessing): Thoma leaps forward with his polearm, launching a fiery flying kick that deals AoE Pyro DMG and summons a protective Blazing Barrier.
- Elemental Burst(Crimson Ooyoroi): Thoma spins his polearm, slashing his opponents with roaring flames that deal AoE Pyro DMG and weave into a Scorching Ooyoroi.
Constellation
Since Thoma is mainly a Support character, he doesn’t require his Constellations to be fully unlocked to be effective. That said, he does get nice buffs upon unlocking Constellations that make him easier to use.
- C1-A Comrade’s Duty: When a character protected by Thoma’s shield (excluding Thoma) is hit, Thoma’s Elemental Skill CD is reduced by 3 seconds, while his Elemental Burst’s CD is reduced by 3 seconds. This effect can be triggered once every 20s.
- C2-A Subordinate’s Skills: Elemental Burst’s duration is increased by 3s.
- C3-Fortified Resolve: Increases the level of his Elemental Skill by 3 levels (goes up to level 15).
- C4-Long-Term Planning: Upon using Elemental Burst, Thoma restores 15 Energy.
- C5-Raging Wildfire: Increases the level of his Elemental Burst by 3 levels (goes up to level 15).
- C6-Burning Heart: When a shield is earned or replenished, all party members’ Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks deal 15% more damage for 6 seconds.
Best Weapon and Artifacts for Thoma
Since Thoma’s shield scales with HP, you need to stack HP so that it can tank more damage. Furthermore, Elemental Recharge is a much-needed attribute so that you can use your Elemental Burst frequently. The 4-Piece Noblesse Oblige is one of the best Artifact sets for Thoma. Not only does it increase your Elemental Burst damage by 20%, but it also increases the damage of all allied members by 20% for 12s upon using the Elemental Burst. Other alternatives that can be used include 2-Piece Mellelith and the 2-Piece Emblem set.
When it comes to Weapon choice, Favanoius Lance is a decent option since it also provides Energy Recharge apart from damage. Furthermore, each time you land a Critical Hit with the weapon, the user will replenish 6 Energy. The Catch is another good weapon for Thoma as it provides Energy Recharge and increases the damage of Elemental Burst.
