MkaeL was one of the first members of Gen.G roster back in May 2020, and he is now benched by the organization.
The Valorant Champions Tour 2021 is close to the end and the teams started to make serious changes to shoot their last bolt. Gen.G Esports announced through their socials that they have benched Michael “MkaeL” De Luca.
“Gen.G Valorant team update: MkaeL will be moving to an inactive role on the team while we continue to evaluate and explore options before the Last Chance Qualifier,” the organization said.
After the benching, Anthony “gMd” Guimond became the only member of the roster that stayed from the first Gen.G Valorant squad. Danny “huynh” Huynh, Keven “PLAYER1” Champagne, and Loic “effys” Sauvageau all parted ways with the team in the past.
The organization’s Co-President Arnold Hur commented regarding the departure of MkaeL: “Want to give credit to MkaeL who has been an incredible professional throughout this long process,” he said. “We will work with him to explore all options to help him get back on the server as soon as possible.”
The 21-year-old player spent a decent period with the North America-based team, winning several B-Tier tournaments. During his time in Gen.G Esports, MkaeL generated a 0.98 rating, 196 CS, and a 1.00 K/D. He was playing as Sova and Cypher in the team recently.
Gen.G’s hopes to qualify for the VCT 2021 Champions, the end-of-year event, haven’t run out yet. They will try their last chance in the North America Last Chance Qualifier with their new fifth player on October 12.
Gen.G Esports have already made it through the Last Chance Qualifier as they have 50 Circuit Points in North America standings.
The Gen.G Valorant roster now consists of:
- Anthony “gMd” Guimond
- Shawn “Shawn” O’Riley
- Kenneth “koosta” Suen
- Nicholas “NaturE” Garrison
