The last semifinalist of this year’s Worlds 2021 is Gen.G as they completed a clean sweep against the North American team Cloud9.
Gen.G came to Worlds 2021 tournament as the third-seed LCK team. They were the targets of many criticizes but managed to make it out of the group stage without facing any difficulties. Today, Gen.G competed against Cloud9 in the quarterfinal stage of Worlds 2021 and didn’t drop a single game in the series. With the wind behind their back, Gen.G will now face EDG in the semifinals.
In the opening game of the series, Cloud9’s team composition was to get Luca “Perkz” Perkovic’s Yasuo ahead and find him good angles in team fights. Jarvan, Lee Sin, Ziggs, and Nautilus have knock-ups that could trigger Yasuo’s ulti pretty easy but it wasn’t the case. Even though C9 abused the upper side of the map, Gen.G won almost every skirmish. The Korean representatives kept their lead until the end of the game and won the first match with confidence.
The second game was totally one-sided in favor of Gen.G. The Korean representatives didn’t give any chances to Cloud9 from the very start until the end. Kim “Clid” Tae-min had a wonderful Lee Sin performance to carry his team to the victory. Clid’s map movements were brilliant and Gen.G’s laners benefit from the opportunities he made.
Lastly, Gen.G once again dominated the game and close out the series in three games against Cloud9. C9’s Worlds 2021 run has come to an end after the result as they are out of the tournament.
LCK Dominance
Gen.G will compete against the only Chinese team that is left in the tournament in the semifinals. The last four teams in the tournament are EDward Gaming, Gen.G, T1, DAMWON KIA. HLE are the only Korean that failed to make it to the semifinals.
