NRG Esports, one of the biggest and most successful esports organizations, has announced its departure from the Fortnite scene.
Many within the Fortnite community expected NRG’s departure to occur sooner or later.
Significantly, several other prominent esports organizations have recently abandoned Fortnite completely. These teams include esports stalwarts such as Sentinels and Astralis.
Many expect the exodus to continue. Basically, Epic Games has shown little interest in supporting esports teams with Fortnite rosters.
The departure of NRG, one of the dominant forces in the competitive side of the game, is another case in point.
About NRG
Headquartered in Los Angeles, California, NRG is a professional gaming and entertainment company established in 2016.
With a focus on competitive esports and gaming culture, the company has experienced significant growth in the past five years. Over 2 billion content views were generated in 2022.
The organization quickly rose to prominence in the esports world, fielding successful teams in a variety of games, including Fortnite.
NRG is home to top-ranked players in Rocket League, Apex Legends, and Valorant.
The San Francisco Shock, NRG’s Overwatch League team, holds the title of the winningest and most popular Overwatch team of all time. The Shock Overwatch team won back-to-back Grand Finals in 2019 and 2020.
The organization was also a major player in Fortnite events and tournaments. Furthermore, NRG often hosted its own events and partnered with other organizations to bring exciting content to the Fortnite community.
NRG’s departure from Fortnite is bound to leave a gaping hole in the competitive scene.

NRG Fortnite
NRG’s Fortnite roster was made up of some of the best players in the game. These players included legendary Fortnite players such as “Clix”, “Benjyfishy”, “MrSavage”, “EpikWhale”, “Zayt”, and many others.
A recent Twitter post by Grady Rains, Executive producer of NRG Esports, thanked these former Fortnite team members.
Clix and NRG
Initially, Cody “Clix” Conrod rose to prominence as a professional Fortnite player with Misfits Gaming. He later joined NRG Esports in 2020 continuing to live stream and compete professionally. Throughout his two-year tenure, Clix elevated his reputation in the professional Fortnite scene. He built a massive following on platforms such as YouTube and Twitch.

Furthermore, Clix achieved great success while with NRG, including winning first place at the Chapter 3 Season 4: Elite Cup Finals in 2022 alongside Fortnite pro “Dukez”. However, on January 25, 2023, Clix made the announcement via Twitter that he was leaving NRG Esports.
The Effects of NRG Exiting Fortnite
NRG, like other organizations in the growing and evolving esports industry, must make tough decisions on which games to invest in and which to move away from. By leaving Fortnite, NRG will be looking to focus its resources on games with more potential for revenue and growth.
The departure of NRG from the Fortnite scene is a significant loss for the game and its community. NRG’s commitment to the game and its players was second to none, and its presence will be missed. Fans of the game and NRG alike will be waiting to see what the organization does next and whether it will continue to be a major player in the esports world.
