The FNCS Invitational 2022 results had one of the craziest endings in the history of the Fortnite competitive scene.

Kami and Setty versus Queasy and Veno

The leaders going into the final 12th game were Becoming Legends Michał “Kami” Kamiński and Iwo “Setty” Zając. However, the second-place team of Tundra’s Harry “Veno” Pearson and Galaxy Racer’s Aleksa “Queasy” Cvetkovic were closing in fast. As a matter of fact, Kami and Setty had just won the 11th game and passed Veno and Queasy to claim first place. Based on the accumulated points, no other duo besides these two EU teams had a serious shot at winning the tournament.

Now, in all other past FNCS tournaments, the first and second-place teams would continue playing their normal winning formula all the way until the end game. Then they would try their best to either win the final game or get enough points to beat out their rival. That would be normal – but this last game was anything but normal.

Details of the Epic Off Spawn Fight

Veno and Queasy had become the kings of high ground throughout most of the tournament. Their strategy throughout the two-day tournament was to battle hard for high ground during the 5th or 6th circle. They could then dominate the endgames from that advantageous position. However, since Setty and kami had won the 11th game from high ground, Queasy and Veno decided to switch strategies.

In the final game, Queasy and Veno made an incredibly surprising decision to go after Kami and Setty right from the very beginning. As soon as they got a good drop off the Battle Bus, they made a beeline for Kami and Setty’s usual drop location at their Gas Station POI. They quickly picked up whatever loot they could and, much to the amazement of everyone, they attacked immediately.

Setty was startled and went down quickly. However, Queasy was also eliminated shortly thereafter. In the ensuing one-versus-one situation, Veno and Kami hit each other simultaneously with one shotgun shot apiece. However, Veno missed his second shotgun shot because of Kami’s lightning-fast movement. Kami was able to get the final shotgun shot on Veno to eliminate the first-place team.

At the end of the fight, there was a roar from the crowd and the casters went berserk. The Polish duo of Kami and Setty won the entire FNCS Invitational 2022 Tournament right there and then – off spawn! Here is the fight in all its glory:

With that win, Kami and Setty took home the first-place prize of $200,000. They also won the beautiful FNCS invitational 2022 trophy designed by the craftspeople at Swarovski.

Other FNCS Invitational 2022 Storylines

Here is a sample of the many storylines that occurred for notable duo teams during the tournament.

Evan “Cented” Barron and Cold:

This duo was the top team from the North American (NA) region. Significantly, they finished with an excellent 3rd place result and a $120,000 prize. Their top-tier fighting mechanics and their skilled low-ground gameplay kept them within striking range of the leaders throughout both days.

Interestingly, a key clutch moment came when Cented was knocked in zone. Fortunately for them, Cold was able to reboot him fairly quickly. Immediately afterward, Falcon Osama “Spy” Almasad and Bravado swooped in for a full attack. Although Cented and Cold were in a weakened state after the reboot, they were able to clutch up and eliminate both Spy and Bravado. They ended up 3rd in that game which solidified their great placing in the tournament.

Cody “Clix” Conrod and Lucas “Duke” Cardenas:

Clix and Duke had a solid 15th-place performance even though they were usually conned by Pinq and Anas at the Fort Jonesy POI. In the tenth game, Clix and Duke were able to achieve a Victory Royale with a great mantle and shotgun shot by Clix. The Clix fans cheered wildly for their favorite Fortnite streamer.

Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf and Matthew “Mero” Faitel:

All eyes were on this duo as Bugha is enshrined in Fortnite history with his World Cup win. Mero has also won multiple FNCS titles and many thought that this duo would place very high in the FNCS Invitational tournament. But, unfortunately for them, the Fortnite gods had other plans for this duo. During the first day, all the zones pulled north. This was completely opposite of their south-side drop spot at Chonkers.

In addition, they were contested off-spawn by Bevvys and Vortexers who eliminated them several times. In the end, the lack of good zone pulls and the constant off-spawn fighting caused them to place at a disappointing 36th place.

Phzin and kitoz:

These representatives of the Latin American region from Brazil exceeded expectations with an impressive 5th place result. They were joined in the top ten by another Brazilian duo, Xeet and kbr, who finished in 9th place. Interestingly, the spectators from Brazil were, without a doubt, the most vocal and excited fans during the entire course of the tournament.

Ethan “Smite” Wuerfl and Larson:

This NA duo battled former OCE FNCE winners Muzz and Looter at Grim Gables. These off-spawn fights allowed the winning duo to get good surge tags at the cost of a lot of mats and loot. Larson and Smite won the majority of the fights and were able to convert that into a commendable 10th-place performance.

Fortnite’s Upcoming Competitive Season

At the end of the tournament, there was a very brief announcement about the next phase of Fortnite Competitive. Players and fans were hoping for another edition of the Fortnite World Cup. But the only reference that the announcers made was about another event in February. There were no details about this upcoming competitive event.

The speculation is that Epic Games will evaluate the success of this FNCS Invitational tournament. Based on their evaluation, they will make a decision as to the next season for the Fortnite competitive community.

Fortnite’s official Twitter account showed that the Chapter 3 Finale will occur on December 3rd. The name of the event, and possibly the next season, is Fracture. This means that Season 2, Chapter 3 is one of the shortest in recent years. Get ready for the new “Fracture” Battle Pass in a few weeks!
