Today Epic announced that the Shockwave Hammer bounce charges have been reduced from 4 to 3 – a whopping 25% nerf.
For those that have become used to rotating with the hammer, this is a pretty severe nerf. However, for players who were able to build and take height, this is a pretty big blessing.
Shockwave Hammer Nerf Effects
Prior to this nerf, height could always get griefed by low-ground warriors. To be fair, this will still happen – even with this nerf. It’s just that, with one less charge, the opportunity to break builds will be somewhat reduced.
There are some decent workarounds for those who have become addicted to the hammer. First, the Shockwave Bow Augment (technically called the Mechanic Bow Augment) can come in very handy for rotating around the map. Granted, using a bow is a bit more complicated than simply left-clicking on the hammer. However, once you get used to it, you’ll wonder why you didn’t use it before this nerf.
In addition, you can always use impulses to get around the map. Impulses aren’t as strong as the, now vaulted, Shockwave Grenades because you can’t break builds with them. Nevertheless, they are still a very good option to move around the map quickly.
All in all, the hammer is still probably one of the best items to carry in your inventory. The simplicity of using it and the fact that it still breaks through builds is a very strong combination. It’s just that it is now less OP than it was before the nerf.
Hurdling Disabled – Again
In other news, hurdling has been disabled yet again. Apparently, Epic just can’t hurdle over the issues yet.
With this particular mechanic, many players are hoping that Epic takes their time and doesn’t re-introduce it back too soon. Unlike mantling, hurdling just doesn’t seem very useful for most players.
Even when Epic brings hurdling back, it would make sense to have it as an option for players. That way, those who love to hurdle to toggle it on, and those that don’t see the point could be done with it forever.
