Epic Games have invited a selection of top Fortnite Duos from around the world who will have the opportunity to compete for a share of a $1,000,000 prize pool.
Fortnite gained global recognition after the 2019 World Cup in New York. Over 40 million players participated in the $30 million prize pool – the largest ever in the game’s history. Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf won the solo event and became an instant celebrity in the world of Fortnite and the broader esports competitive scene.
Since then, Fortnite has transitioned to season-finale FNCS (Fortnite Championship Series) tournaments. Although these FNCS tournaments have lower prize pools than the one-time World Cup event, they do offer more events spread throughout many regions. The upcoming Invitational is a step towards the original World Cut format with participation by Fortnite pros from all regions.
BLAST will produce and deliver Fortnite’s return to in-person events with November’s FNCS Invitational 2022. The FNCS Invitational will take place in the Raleigh Convention Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, on November 12 and 13.
Leo Matlock, MD for Development at BLAST, said: “The return of in-person Fortnite events is a pivotal moment for the FNCS community and BLAST is hugely proud to be able to support in making this happen. Having the opportunity to deliver such a highly-anticipated event further strengthens our partnership with the Fortnite Competitive team. This partnership between BLAST and Fortnite Competitive has been built on bringing together first-class technology, industry-leading production and esports expertise. We’re excited at the prospect of thousands of fans being able to experience Fortnite in-person again and can’t wait to deliver an unforgettable two-day tournament in Raleigh, North Carolina in November.”
