A major update is coming to Fortnite’s ecosystem for creators, as Epic Games rolls out significant changes to Discover, the main hub where players find new UEFN and Creative experiences.
The goal is simple: reduce clutter, improve visibility for high-quality islands, and ensure players are matched with more original and engaging content.
A Shift Toward Cleaner, More Curated Discover Feeds
The Discover tab is being reworked to prioritize personalization and originality. Epic Games is introducing systems designed to better surface relevant content while reducing spam, duplication, and misleading listings.
Key platform changes include:
- Reduced visibility for duplicate or highly similar islands
- Downranking experiences that closely resemble previously published games
- Stronger checks on island thumbnails to enforce originality and quality standards
- Removal of cluttered or incorrectly placed Discover rows
- Requiring creators to assign a single genre per island
- Prioritizing “Popular” and “Recently Played” rows higher in Discover
- Preventing fraudulent Sponsored Row campaigns from gaining placement
These updates aim to ensure that players see a more curated selection of experiences instead of repetitive or low-effort content.
Stronger Focus on Original Content
Epic is also reinforcing its approach to rewarding originality. Islands that fail to show clear engagement or appear too similar to existing experiences will receive reduced visibility.
Content that may be affected includes:
- Duplicate or near-identical game concepts
- Keyword-stuffed titles or misleading descriptions
- Low-effort or repetitive gameplay loops
- Low-quality or non-original thumbnails
To support this shift, thumbnail standards are becoming stricter, with low-resolution or reused visuals now more likely to be flagged or downranked.
New Genre System for All Islands
A key part of the update is a new genre-based classification system for islands inside Fortnite’s Discover ecosystem, designed to better organize content and improve how players find new experiences.
Creators will now be required to select one primary genre when publishing or republishing an island. This genre determines where the experience appears in Discover and ensures each island is only featured within a single genre row at a time.
The available genres include:
- Adventure & RPG
- Battle Royale
- Deathrun & Platformer
- Horror
- Music & Rhythm
- Party & Mini Games
- Roleplaying & Social
- Shooter
- Simulation & Tycoon
- Sports & Racing
- Strategy
- Survival
Live islands will also be automatically assigned a genre, but creators can update or refine this selection through the Creator Portal.
Importantly, this system is separate from existing island tags, which will continue to function as additional metadata to help describe gameplay and improve discoverability without influencing primary placement in Discover.
This change is part of a broader effort to make Discover more structured, reduce clutter, and ensure players are consistently matched with more relevant and higher-quality experiences.
Changes to Sponsored Content and Monetization
Epic is also tightening control over Sponsored Row campaigns to prevent abuse and improve fairness for creators.
New updates include:
- Incremental billing thresholds at $50, $250, and $1,000 spend levels
- Daily end-of-campaign billing once lifetime spend exceeds $1,000
- New systems to detect and remove fraudulent or inauthentic campaigns
These changes aim to ensure Sponsored placement remains a reliable tool for legitimate creators.
A More Personalized Discover Experience
Epic Games has confirmed that Discover will continue evolving with new personalization systems, improved ranking signals, and ongoing layout experimentation.
The long-term goal is to create a cleaner, more intuitive browsing experience where high-quality, original islands have a stronger chance of reaching the right audience.
Final Thoughts
With these updates, Discover is shifting toward a more structured and quality-focused ecosystem for creators inside Fortnite. While the changes may require adjustments from developers, the overall direction prioritizes originality, fairness, and better player discovery.
