Fortnite is taking its latest season in a chaotic new direction with Chapter 7 Season 4: Override, introducing new gameplay mechanics, powerful weapons, collectible Sprites, and a lineup of gaming crossovers.
The new season encourages players to break the usual rules of Battle Royale by activating Overrides, discovering Lobby Hacks, and using Cheat Codes scattered across the Island. The update also brings characters and items from some of gaming’s biggest franchises into the Fortnite universe.
Override Consoles Change the Rules
One of the biggest additions in Chapter 7 Season 4 is the Override Console, which appears in every match. Players who reach a console can take control and rewrite the rules for the entire server.
The feature comes with a major risk, however. The player’s name is displayed around the console base, making it clear to everyone who has taken control. This can turn each Override Console into a high-priority target during a match.
Rare Squad Overrides offer an even more powerful advantage by giving a buff to the entire squad that reaches the console first. However, claiming one also broadcasts the squad’s location on the map, forcing players to decide whether the reward is worth revealing their position.
New Weapons Bring Gaming Icons to Fortnite
Chapter 7 Season 4 also expands the Fortnite arsenal with several powerful weapons inspired by popular gaming franchises.
Players can get their hands on Midas’ Masterpiece, a pistol capable of delivering one-headshot eliminations. Meanwhile, Mega Man joins the action with the Mega Buster, giving players access to the iconic arm cannon.
More crossover weapons are planned throughout the season. The Kingdom Key from KINGDOM HEARTS and Rebecca’s Guns from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners are among the weapons expected to arrive later in the season.
Sprites Return With New Features
Sprites from Chapter 7 Season 3: Runners are also sticking around. Players can now bring their collections into the new Sprite Garden mode, where they can interact with their Sprites and show them off to friends.
The Sprite system is also being expanded with Loot Hacks. Players can spend Sprite Dust to customize the contents of Chests in Battle Royale, adding bonus items that aren’t normally available through standard Chest loot.
This gives players another way to customize their matches and potentially gain access to more useful loot while exploring the Island.
Full Override Update Notes
For players looking for the complete breakdown of Chapter 7 Season 4, Epic Games has also published the Override Community Update Notes. The notes cover all of the season’s gameplay changes, including new and unvaulted weapons, competitive updates, balance changes, bug fixes, and other adjustments coming to Battle Royale.
Sonic Leads the Battle Pass
Sonic the Hedgehog is the headline character for the Chapter 7 Season 4 Battle Pass, with the Tails Sidekick joining him.
Players who purchase the Battle Pass before August 27 at 11:59 PM ET can also receive the Infiltrator Grace Crowne Outfit and accompanying accessories as a launch-week bonus.
Epic is also offering an incentive for players who gift the Battle Pass. Anyone who gifts the Pass to a friend during the season will have both players receive the Peril Peak Mali Outfit and its accessories.
More Gaming Crossovers Coming
The crossover lineup doesn’t stop with Sonic and Mega Man. Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 will feature a wide range of characters and cosmetics from major gaming franchises throughout the season.
Players can expect content inspired by KINGDOM HEARTS, Pac-Man, Mega Man, Persona 5 Royal, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, 99 Nights in the Forest, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon, including Spyro’s iconic classic look.
With new gameplay mechanics, customizable loot, powerful weapons, and an extensive lineup of gaming collaborations, Chapter 7 Season 4: Override is shaping up to be another major Fortnite update.
