Whilst it hasn’t been officially revealed just yet, it feels like Fifa 23 is right around the corner. With the domestic seasons wrapping up around Europe and EA moving Fifa 22 to a free-to-play model, talk has turned to when the annual release of the most realistic football simulator might be coming around again. However, whilst we all know the actual gameplay might not be anything groundbreaking, there are some potentially large developments on the horizon for EA’s flagship franchise. To help keep you in the loop with where things stand, check Gamelevate as we run through everything we know (so far) about Fifa 23.
What It’ll Be Called
One of the biggest talking points that has surrounded EA recently has been their relationship with Fifa, the governing body behind the beautiful game.
Speculation had been rife that the game developers could be on the cusp of ending their thirty-year long relationship with Fifa, and the news recently broke that Fifa 23 will be the last game in the series to feature the governing body’s namesake.
Starting from 2024, the series will be known as ‘EA Sports FC’.

Crossplay May Be Available
The ability to play across consoles has been on the wishlist of Fifa players for countless editions, could seriously impact the wider competitive scene and, finally, looks like it could be on the cards for Fifa 23.
EA have already begun to experiment with crossplay in Fifa 22, allowing players to play with their friends even if they are on different platforms. The tests have so far been reserved for FIFA 2022 players on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Google Stadia, showcasing that EA have focused their attentions on getting this new feature ready for their new generation of gamers.
The fact that EA have also only reserved this so far for friendlies and seasons only also points to the fact that the company are keen to iron out as many possible technical bugs now, rather than after the launch of future titles.
When It Will Be Released
Whilst it hasn’t been officially revealed or even teased with a possible release date, we can make a few educated guesses when Fifa 23 might be landing based on history. Most of the recent FIFA games have been released between September and October to coincide with the close of the summer transfer window and the start of the domestic season in Europe.
FIFA 21 was released on October 5, 2020, and FIFA 22 dropped on September 26, 2021. There’s no reason to suppose EA are going to switch things up for Fifa 23, so expect a Fall 2022 release date.
Speaking about the upcoming Fifa 23, EA has claimed:
“EA and FIFA are excited to deliver the greatest, most expansive FIFA title later this fall. (It) will also include more game modes, features, teams, leagues, players, and competitions than any previous edition. Fans will be able to experience these innovations across the full EA Sports FIFA ecosystem including FIFA Mobile, FIFA Online 4, and eSports.”
