How Many Active Players Does Fifa 22 Have?
According to EA, Fifa 22 has had a stellar start to life with its fanbase, boasting over nine million active players across all the different consoles and systems it has been released on.
“Since launch, we’ve already had 9.1 million players join the game, 7.6 million Ultimate Team squads created and 460 million matches played. We will continue delivering amazing experiences throughout this season, but first – a heartfelt thank you to our incredible community of football fans.”
Once again the hottest release in the year, according to Steamcharts, Fifa 22 has been averaging 51,000 concurrent players on PC alone, showcasing its rising stock on the platform.
Is Fifa Still The Market Leader?
Throughout its seventeen-year history in the world of sports gaming, the Fifa series has amassed sales of over 325 million units.
EA have a host of other sports simulation titles, with the Madden American football and NBA basketball series being the two biggest flag bearers for the company. However, the two titles have only reached sales of 130 and 118 million units worth of sales respectively, proving that Fifa is still EA’s big gaming franchise.
Against other soccer-specific titles, Fifa’s dominance in the market is even more extreme, with Football Manager on 34 million and Pro Evolution Soccer on 111 million sales respectively.
What is interesting however is how much the nature of Fifa sales have changed in 2021, with digital sales of Fifa 22 rising by 77% compared to last year’s edition.
How Good Is Fifa 22?
The Fifa series has garnered an infamous reputation for being a franchise that EA shamelessly pumps out every year with very little in the way of new features or tweaks to the overall gameplay.
The first couple months or so of Fifa 22 have shown it to be something different, however. There have been a whole host of features included in both Ultimate Team and Career Mode, and the gameplay has been given a significant revamp thanks to the introduction of hypermotion technology.
The game feels more competitively viable than ever before with a much higher skill ceiling than previous editions, the community have been pleasantly surprised by the love EA have shown the series, and with more and more organizations getting involved in the game’s Esports scene, the future looks bright for Fifa 22.
