Fifa 22 has been on the shelves for a number of months, but is still the title to beat when it comes to those infamous pre-Christmas sales lists. With the game still boasting a healthy player base and the competitive scene starting to get to grips with the meta online, let’s take a look at the gameplay at the top end of the pitch.
Goal-scoring has been one of the most talked about parts of Fifa 22 this year, with the changes to goalkeeping and defending leaving both pro and casual players scratching their heads over how they can be more clinical. To help with this, Gamelevate has pulled together some quick-fire tips to help you in your next match!
Know How To Recylce The Ball
It’s one of the basic realities of soccer, but it’s usually the case that whichever side has the most of the ball is usually the one who ends up creating more chances to score. And the same is certainly true for Fifa 22.
Knowing when and how to recycle the ball is one of the most defining differences between pro players and the more casual Fifa enthusiasts.
Recycling the ball means more than just passing sideways to the player in space, it’s about patient build-up (especially against opponents that know what they’re doing), and using a mixture of different passes to manipulate defenses and plan passages two or three steps ahead at a time.
Learn A Few Skill Moves
Fifa 22’s gameplay is noticeably far slower than previous editions, which has had a dramatic impact on the effectiveness of skill moves in attacking passages and creating chances. And, whilst this year’s edition isn’t exactly Fifa Street reincarnated, learning a few basic skill moves can be the key difference between a successful and a wasted attack.
Fake shots might not be as overpowered as they were in the Fifa 18, 19 and 20, but they are still a relatively easy-to-master trick to put a defender on the floor, with ball rolls still being an equally viable move against opponents closer to the ball.
The aerial ball has also been given a noticeable nerf in this year’s Fifa 22, so don’t be shy putting in crosses from out wide, attempting dinks over the top of the backline as well as chipped shots when a goalkeeper comes rushing off their line.
Keep Your Head
It’s beyond a meme at this point, but Fifa 22 is still a game capable of producing some of the most infuriating sequences that can tilt even the most skilled and experienced of players. EA themselves have acknowledged that this year’s Fifa has injected a sizeable buff to the defending and goalkeeping AIs, which has already drawn plenty of criticism from salty players on Twitter and Reddit.
But, once again, the scripting myth is still no closer to being proven, and a lot of these ‘criticisms’ aren’t nearly as unplayable as these critics would have you believe, providing you can keep a clear head in the game.
It sounds cliche, and maybe even a little bit patronizing, but one of the best pieces of advice we can offer to Fifa 22 players looking to find the net more often is to make sure they’re not desperately chasing the wins and compounding their bad mood.
If you feel your blood boiling and you start hitting speculative shots and slide tackles, it’s probably best to put the game down for the day.
