The Skarner rework has been on the horizon for quite some time now, in fact, we are talking a long time, but after some push backs, and some more push backs, we finally have an idea of what the new and improved scorpion king will be like.
We have our first look at the new Skarner, as well as some of his skins and even some videos of his abilities!
Reworked Skarner Abilities in League of Legends
So we got our first look at the reworked Skarner after months of nothingness from Riot Games, and that came alongside the Dev Update on the official Riot Games YouTube channel. This came out alongside the announcement of Hwei, League of Legends’ next champion.
Skarner’s New Q does his best Taliyah impression and grabs a rock and lobs it forward with his tail – which has three of! The rock does a large AOE circle of damage, as well as slowing enemies. This looks like something Skarner can pick up and lob when he chooses, rather than being an instant cast ability.
Skarner’s new W gives him a shield, similar to his current W, but it also emits an AOE pulse, which also seems to heal allies on his team for a little bit of health. Whilst we are unsure how this works, this could be a big change!
The new and refreshed scorpion has had his E completely changed, which now allows him to crawl through a wall, grab an enemy and stun them against a wall. This could be great from ganking from unique angles when he reaches the rift, so beware of the new ganking style!
Whilst we did not get a look at the new Skarner ultimate ability, it has been announced that the suppression hook will no longer be single target, or a point-and-click ability, but instead he can drag multiple enemies, but also miss the hook too.
This makes his ultimate more of a high risk high reward style, and we can imagine that considering he has three tails, he can grab up to three enemies!
Skarner’s passive has yet to be revealed, but we do know that it won’t feature the crystal system that invades our jungles with the current Skarner.
When will the new Skarner rework come out in League of Legends?
We do not currently have a date for the release of the new Skarner rework, and he can be expected in early 2024 according to a dev blog by Riot Games.
Take this with a pinch of salt, however, as the Skarner VGU has been pushed back a lot over the course of the rework project, so hopefully he will be on the PBE before Season 14 starts!
Phreak recently stated that visual updates and VGU’s take significantly longer than releasing new champions as every single one of the champion’s skins have to be reworked too, but we have to say, the new Skarner reworked skins certainly look worth the wait!
