Riot Lexical revealed some teasers about the next League of Legends champion to hit the rift in the latest Dev Update on the Riot Games YouTube channel, and whilst a lot is still a mystery, we did get some big information, which we have wrapped up nicely with a bow in this very article for you!
What kind of Champion is Hwei?
We weren’t given much, but we know Hwei is a male, and primarily a Mid Laner in League of Legends. He is described as an artist solo liner, who has a fairly high skill ceiling.
This is because a lot of champions that have been released recently have massively overloaded kits, such as Naafiri and Samira, with Rioters themselves even acknowledging this.
Hwei is described to be a high-difficulty champion, so dominating your enemy on him requires you to put in a lot of time into mastering him, rather than the champion just having too much in his base kit.
We have had a lot of slayer champions recently, so we can imagine that Hwei will steer clear of that, so a potential control mage is a possibility, although those are not normally very high-skilled champions, compared to a lot of slayers.
Exceptions of these are champions such as Azir, but either way, we cannot wait to find out!
When will Hwei be released in League of Legends?
The big question that everyone has about Hwei is when will he be unleashed to paint his way around Summoner’s Rift, and whilst we don’t have an exact answer for you, we can roughly estimate and expect Hwei towards the final few weeks of 2023.
We have already had Milio, Naafiri, and Briar in 2023, so a fourth champion in the fourth quarter of the year would round out 2023 nicely.
Do not bet on this, however, as whilst we expect this, Riot Games are notorious for pushing back content, even as recently as the Skarner rework and Coven Syndra being pushed back from Patch 13.20.
We would not be surprised if Hwei gets pushed back to early 2024, and is the first champion released in 2024 instead. Although one thing we can almost guarantee is that Hwei will have hit the rift before the end of preseason of Season 14, as Riot Games want the game to be set and the player base to be settled before the new Season starts.
If we get any more updates about Hwei, whether it be his abilities, design, release date, or even lore, we will be the first to cover it, so keep an eye out for some news about the newest champion in League of Legends!
