The latest patch for Elden Ring Nightreign just delivered its first enhanced boss—and it caught players off guard.
Patch 1.01.3 seemed minor at first. It focused on bug fixes and small gameplay improvements. But players soon found something unexpected in the Expeditions menu: a new Gaping Jaw mission, labeled Everdark Sovereign.
Without any announcement, FromSoftware released the first Elden Ring Nightreign enhanced boss, letting players discover the challenge on their own.
What Are Everdark Sovereigns?
These new enhanced bosses are called Everdark Sovereigns. They are tougher versions of existing Nightlords. You can only access them if you’re online and have already defeated the base version of that Nightlord.
The first Sovereign is Gaping Jaw. Two more—Sentient Pest and Darkdrift Knight—are on the way. Each boss will be available for one week before being replaced by the next.
This new feature will run in cycles, adding weekly content and fresh challenges.
The New Gaping Jaw Is Brutal
Players who faced the updated Gaping Jaw say it’s a serious test. It moves faster, spawns deadly storms, and crushes even experienced trios.
You can fight these enhanced bosses solo or with others. Either way, the Elden Ring Nightreign enhanced boss format is clearly designed to raise the difficulty and reward skilled players.
It’s similar to Monster Hunter’s “Tempered Monsters”—tougher versions of existing enemies added after launch.
Rewards and Sigil Shop
Defeating an Everdark Sovereign gives you Sovereign Sigils. These are used in a new shop located in the main hub.
The shop offers rare items, skins, relics, and even lighting changes for the Roundtable Hold. It also includes the long-requested shifting earth status feature.
A Promising Future for Nightreign
This surprise update feels like more than just a patch. It adds high-level content and signals bigger things ahead. Players now see this as a major step in the post-launch roadmap.
Bandai Namco teased that more is coming:
“This is only the beginning of the Everdark Sovereign cycle. As the power of the Night ebbs and wanes, the Sovereigns will soon return to the abyss they came from.”
