The Chinese org’s recent Weibo post suggests they’re taking a step back from the competitive Dota 2 scene, at least until after the end of TI10.
EHOME bench Dota 2 team
EHOME has announced at noon local time that the team will “temporarily [go into a] non-Active state” to respect the wishes of the players. Practically speaking, this means the benching of the entire squad. The post promises a revamp and more to come, but the language of the Weibo post does not make it clear whether EHOME will look for a fully new Dota 2 squad or keep some of the players like Pan “Fade” Yi and Liu “Sylar” Jiajun around for the future.
The move seemingly mirrors Na’Vi’s decision to do bench their own Dota 2 team following their failure to qualify TI10. With many professional players’ contracts containing clauses that reduce their payment when they’re not in the active squad, this move can be seen as much as a cost-cutting measure as a plan to completely change direction for EHOME in Dota 2.
EHOME DPC 2021 results: nothing to write home about
The team failed to secure a single DPC point in the 2021 season despite receiving a direct invitation to the upper division to start the proceedings. They finished fifth in Season 1 after losing a tiebreaker match to PSG.LGD, followed by a 6th-place finish and a 3-4 record in Season 2, barely avoiding relegation.
It’s a far cry from the storied team’s previous performances: the storied organization that was originally founded in 2004 and re-formed in 2010. EHOME’s reincarnated squad dominated international Dota for a short while, finishing as runners-up at TI1 and 5-6th at TI5 and TI6 alike. Their latest notable result is a victory at The Bucharest Minor in 2019, a result that qualified them for the Chongqing Major, another event they’d finish in 5-6th place after defeats to Team Secret and Evil Geniuses.
EHOME’s new Dota 2 roster: what we know so far
Information is scarce about EHOME’s plans for their Dota 2 rosters and it remains to be seen what’s next for the Chinese org. With squads like Elephant emerging to further increase the competitiveness of the scene, it’s difficult to envision how they could bounce back quickly with a team that’s ready to instantly challenge for DPC honors.
