Here is a Dota 2 guide on when you should be buying a Wraith Band, or if you should at all, for different Agility heroes in Dota 2.
The Wraith Band is the Agility stat-based starter item in Dota 2, and it is also a must have for some position 1 heroes. However, knowing when to buy or skip this item separates the newbies from the pros, as there are some cases when buying it can end up crippling your build timing entirely. There are also decent alternatives to get, especially if the investment is worth the time farming for it.
Wraith Band in Dota 2 – useful, but exercise caution
Knowing when to buy a Wraith Band in Dota 2 can make or break a position 1 hero’s item build. Since most carry heroes are very dependent on their item timings, it’s sometimes beneficial to skip Wraith Bands since they do not scale that well into the late game. That said, heroes like Drow Ranger, Luna, Gyrocopter, Faceless Void, Clinkz, and Medusa can benefit from the stats given by Wraith Band. The important thing to note is that since Wraith Band can delay your first big item build, the hero should have some sort of wave clearance in order to compensate for the purchase.
Alternatives
In some instances, purchasing a Falcon Blade over two Wraith Bands is better. The extra mana regeneration and health the Falcon Blade provides makes it a viable option for low health pool heroes with mana issues, especially Clinkz and Weaver. Recently, it has also been pegged as a solid, cheaper replacement for Echo Saber on some characters, including Spectre. You will definitely miss out on the great and useful passive from Saber, but it will not delay your items as much given the Falcon Blade’s cheaper nature.
