Blumhouse Productions, in partnership with James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Behaviour Interactive, is set to produce a horror movie. The new movie will be based on the popular multiplayer slasher video game Dead by Daylight.
The collaboration was announced as the search for a writer and director is currently underway. The movie is expected to be a “scary cinematic adaptation” of the game that pits characters against slasher maniacs both original and iconic to the world of horror.
Blumhouse Productions: The Company Behind the Dead by Daylight Movie
The Dead by Daylight movie will mark another horror-themed project for Blumhouse Productions. The company is well known for producing films like Paranormal Activity, The Purge, Get Out, and Halloween.
Blumhouse’s founder, Jason Blum, said, “We know there are so many fans of Dead by Daylight out there and think it’s imperative we find someone who appreciates and loves the world as much as we do, to help us bring the game to the big screen. We know our partners at Behaviour and Atomic Monster will help us bring the best version of this game to life.”
Creators Excited to Expand Dead by Daylight Universe with Film Adaptation
In a statement, Stephen Mulrooney, the executive vice president of Behaviour Interactive, expressed his excitement. He seemed keen to work with two giants of the horror film industry.
Mulrooney said, “Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are the ideal partners to craft Dead by Daylight’s killer entrance onto the big screen.” Mulrooney added that the Dead by Daylight movie is an opportunity to further expand the game’s universe. He continued, “At Behaviour, our motto is to create unique moments, together, forever.”
Blumhouse and the Dead by Daylight Movie Prospects
Dead by Daylight was released in 2016 and has since become popular among horror fans.
The game features an infamous roster of original horror characters and several crossover characters from other pop-culture franchises. These include franchises like Silent Hill, Stranger Things, Resident Evil, and Halloween.
The Dead by Daylight movie will be a great opportunity for these characters to make the jump to the big screen.
The video game industry has seen several adaptations of games into movies. However, while some have been successful others have failed to impress.
Fortunately, with the success of recent video game-based films like Sonic the Hedgehog and Detective Pikachu, it seems that Hollywood is more open to the idea of bringing video games to the big screen.
Blumhouse Games Launches to Produce Horror-Themed Video Games
