Danger Zone is a Destiny 2 modifier that can apply to explosive weapons to allow for some truly chaotic mayhem.
This suboptimal but fun trait means that wading into groups of enemies can be explosive fun.
Danger Zone Destiny 2 explained
In Destiny 2, players can find, earn, or buy weapons that have different uses. These armaments can be further altered with different traits or modifiers.
A key part of this looter-shooter multiplayer game is getting the best weapons you can.
Danger Zone is a Basic-tier trait that can appear on grenade launchers and rocket launchers. The description reads:
“The blast radius of this weapon increases when surrounded by combatants. While active, this weapon deals significantly less damage to the wielder.”
Through testing, the Destiny 2 players have uncovered the exact specific details.
The blast radius of a Danger Zone weapon increases while within 15 meters of at minimum three enemies. The effect lingers for about four seconds. This means players have a grace period to reposition.
It also reduces self-damage from the explosion by 40%.
What is blast radius in Destiny 2?
“Blast radius” refers to the area which explosive projectiles will damage. Obviously, a rocket is more than just a big piece of metal: the resulting explosion is the main threat.
Because Danger Zone increases the blast radius, this means that it can catch more enemies. However, because its trigger is proximity based, this means that players run the risk of hitting themselves with the bigger boom.
The good news is that the required range to proc Danger Zone is fairly generous. Players can get the benefits without having to blow themselves up.
As of November 29 2023, rocket launchers apply knockback to the user as well. This means that players can rocket jump to a certain degree, using their own explosions to propel themselves. As a result, Danger Zone can allow players to reposition if enemies are swarming them.
Still, it isn’t really the best trait. If players are looking for damage, they’re probably better off looking for other traits on their weapons.
One understated use of Danger Zone though is its utility with flashbangs. Blinding grenades with significantly increased blast radius can apply a lot of very useful crowd control on large groups.
This might even be useful on PVP maps, if players want to give it a roll on maps like the newly-returned Citadel.
