Ancient is the latest map to enter the competitive map pool, having been introduced as a part of Operation Broken Fang back in December 2020. The map made its way into the competitive circuit in May 2021, and has certainly made a splash with its distinctive visuals and innovative design. With teams still finding their feet and the sample size so small compared to the other picks in the pool, Gamelevate takes you through all the best CS:GO tips and guides on how to be awesome on Ancient.

Background And Overview
Ancient takes place in an Aztec-themed Central American archaeological site, giving it a vivid lush look that helps it stand out from other maps in the pool. Both the A and B bombsite are labelled as ‘plazas’ on the map, with everything from tarpaulin to mosaics and monuments being thrown in to give the map more character. The comparisons to former scrimming favourite Aztec are more than obvious, with Ancient starting off as a remake of the classic pick with the same textures, sounds and props.
With a round win percentage of 56.8%, Ancient is one of the most CT sided maps in the pool, with 11-4, 12-3 and even 13-2 scorelines being fairly common in the competitive scene.
The A site is located in between two temples to the right of the CT spawn and has a forked entrance for Terrorists through A main. The other entrance is through mid, which features the hotly-contested donut spot that is one of the most pivotal points on the map to hold. CTs have a plethora of spots they’re able to hold the A bombsite from, with the boxes and plateau being especially popular in the current meta.
The B bombsite is to the left of the CT spawn and is centred around a large pillar. Much smaller than the A site, there are two entrances to the site for the T side through Cheetah and B ramp. CTs also have two entrances to the site, which comes from either the left or the right of the pillar closest to the spawn.
Do People Like Ancient?
After Canals and Overpass, Ancient is the third Valve original map created for CS:GO. In comparison to the likes of Vertigo (the latest addition to the map pool before Ancient), the map follows a far more basic design. The ‘four leaf clover’ layout is similar to the likes of Dust II and Mirage and meant that very little in the way of overhauls have been needed since it was added to the competitive circuit.
A few players have complained about the foliage and how certain agent skins clash with the backgrounds around the map, but nevertheless, the map remains a popular pick with both casual and competitive players.
