City States: Medieval has officially left Early Access, bringing its full 1.0 release to PC. Developed by Reverie World Studios, the strategy title combines city-building, grand strategy, and real-time siege warfare, challenging players to grow a prosperous medieval merchant republic while surviving the ambitions of powerful neighboring kingdoms.
The game is available now on Steam and the indie.io Store for $19.99, with a 20% launch discount. Players can also try a new free demo before purchasing.
Build a Medieval Trade Empire
Set during the 12th century, City States: Medieval puts players in control of a single merchant city surrounded by far larger kingdoms. Rather than conquering through sheer military strength, success depends on building a thriving economy through trade.
Players can establish trade routes across Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, exchanging valuable resources such as wool, linen, silk, and spices. As wealth grows, so does political influence, but prosperity also attracts enemies eager to seize your riches.
Defend Your City with Real-Time Siege Warfare
Economic success is only half the challenge. Players must also defend their settlements through real-time siege battles featuring tactical medieval combat.
One of the major improvements introduced in version 1.0 expands the game’s military management. Previously, heroes were required to control cities during battles. Now, any player-controlled army can defend settlements, making it easier to protect distant colonies while heroes lead campaigns elsewhere.
The update also introduces improvements to the Call to Arms system and lord management, giving players greater control over military leaders throughout the campaign.
What’s New in City States: Medieval 1.0?
The full release includes a wide range of improvements based on player feedback during Early Access.
Highlights include:
- Major world map performance improvements
- Enhanced visuals
- A redesigned tutorial for new players
- Improved balance across trade, research, and the in-game economy
- Expanded strategic options for city defense and army management
According to the developers, these updates make the 1.0 version the most polished and complete experience since the game’s Early Access debut.
