The 21-year-old mid laner Caps will continue his journey in G2 Esports’ League of Legends roster for one more year.
Following the end of LEC Summer 2021, roster changes have begun. Rasmus “Caps” Winther signed a one-year extension with G2 Esports, remaining a member of the roster until November 20, 2023, according to Riot Games’ Contract Database.
G2 Esports haven’t shared anything regarding the extension. The contracts of other players in the roster, except Martin “Rekkles” Larsson, is set to end in November 2022 if any renewal isn’t made.
G2 Esports started 2021 with high expectations after adding the veteran Rekkles to the roster. However, things didn’t go well for G2 Esports. After finishing the regular season of LEC Spring 2021 in first place, they got defeated by Rogue and MAD Lions in the playoffs, which blocked them off on the way to MSI 2021. In LEC Summer 2021, the European powerhouse stayed out of Worlds for the first time in six years, following the loss against Fnatic in the playoffs.

Similar to Rekkles, Caps joined G2 Esports from Fnatic in 2018. One of Europe’s best mid laners, he won LEC Spring 2019, MSI 2019, Rift Rivals 2019, and LEC Summer 2019 in the first year with his new team. He lost to FunPlus Phoenix in the grand final of Worlds 2019 and finished his first season with G2 Esports.
Caps’ domination continued in 2020. For LEC Spring 2020, he swapped roles with Perkz and competed as ADC throughout the season. The results didn’t change as G2 Esports lifted the trophy. Caps returned to the position where he belonged, mid lane, for LEC Summer 2020, which G2 finished as the champion. Despite reaching the semi-finals in Worlds 2020, the star mid laner failed once more in winning the international tournament.
Following the disappointing season in LEC, it’s likely G2 Esports will make more adjustments in their League of Legends roster.
