The first edition of the Cannes Video Gaming Festival will take place in October 2023 at the Palais des Festivals.

The 2023 Cannes Video Gaming Festival is organized by the Auditoire agency and Robin Leproux. Robin Leproux is the former president of Paris-Saint-Germain (PSG) and former manager of M6. Auditoire is an events management company and part of the Omincom Group. The company is based in Paris and has 6 worldwide offices.

This past spring, the organizers won a call for tenders organized by the city of Cannes, which is co-owner of the brand. This contract is for a period of five years and provides for a five-day event within the Côte d’Azur community. The event is financed by public and private organizations, but not directly by the video game industry.

The gaming industry already has the Game Awards evening, organized at the end of each year in the United States. However, Robin Leproux stated, “We want to create the reference ceremony to celebrate the creators of video games. We want to be the Palme d’or of video games.”

The first edition of the Cannes Video Gaming Festival will focus on the awards ceremony. The organizers are thinking big. “We are planning a big festive parade with 200 to 300 cosplayers. Then we will have an innovative stair climb with virtual reality in particular,” explains Antoine de Tavernost, managing director of Auditoire.

Event Ceremony

Major streamers from several countries will commentate on the ceremony live. The commentators and analysts will be present in the gaming rooms. According to Antoine de Tavernost, “They alone should guarantee an audience of at least 20 million people. Content creators on Twitch or YouTube will have access to take over the stream for their own viewing parties. “

Robin Leproux added, “The competition is open to all styles of video games, whether for consoles, mobile, big budget or independent. Then a jury, which must include leading international personalities, will designate the winners. The fact that the city of Cannes is involved in the project facilitates the discussions.”
