PlayStation fans will soon have the chance to relive two of the most iconic entries in Call of Duty history. Treyarch has officially confirmed that both Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 are being ported to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, with releases planned for July 2026.
The upcoming ports will allow players to experience the complete original packages, including Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies modes, on modern PlayStation hardware.
Black Ops and Black Ops 2 Release Window
Treyarch announced the ports on June 17, revealing that developer Iron Galaxy is handling development. While an exact launch date has not yet been confirmed, both titles are scheduled to arrive on PS4 and PS5 sometime in July 2026.
The release marks the first opportunity for PlayStation players to enjoy these games natively on modern consoles. Since the PlayStation 3 era, fans have been unable to access either title on newer PlayStation systems, while Xbox users have benefited from backward compatibility support.
Expected Pricing
Although Activision has not officially announced pricing, multiple reports suggest that the games will be sold separately for approximately $40 each.
Additional downloadable content is also expected to return. Reports indicate that individual DLC map packs could be offered for around $10 each, while a discounted season pass may provide access to all available DLC for approximately $30.
Players should note that these figures remain unconfirmed until Activision provides official pricing details.
What to Expect From the PS4 and PS5 Ports
One of the biggest details revealed so far is that these releases are ports rather than full remasters. As a result, players should not expect major visual overhauls, redesigned assets, or significant gameplay changes.
Instead, Treyarch appears focused on preserving the original experiences while making them accessible on current-generation PlayStation platforms.
At launch, both games are expected to include:
- Full Campaign modes
- Classic Multiplayer experiences
- Complete Zombies offerings
- Original maps and gameplay systems
Fans will once again be able to follow Alex Mason’s Cold War-era journey in Black Ops and revisit the futuristic storyline of Black Ops 2. The return of fan-favorite Zombies maps is also expected to be a major draw for longtime Call of Duty players.
Dedicated Servers and Additional Features
Current reports suggest that the PlayStation versions will operate on modern dedicated servers rather than relying on the original PS3 network infrastructure. However, Treyarch has not announced any major quality-of-life upgrades, performance enhancements, or new gameplay features.
Cross-platform play also appears unlikely at this stage, though the developer has yet to provide final details regarding online functionality.
More information is expected to be shared as the July launch window approaches.
For longtime Call of Duty fans, the return of Black Ops and Black Ops 2 offers an opportunity to revisit some of the franchise’s most celebrated campaigns, multiplayer experiences, and Zombies adventures on modern PlayStation consoles.
