Season 4 has arrived in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, bringing a substantial wave of weapon balancing changes, equipment adjustments, Ranked Play updates, and the debut of a brand-new multiplayer experience inspired by classic Black Ops gameplay.
One of the biggest highlights is a significant nerf to the SG-12’s Dragon’s Breath attachment, which has dominated close-range engagements in recent months. Treyarch has also introduced buffs to several underused weapons, adjusted equipment performance, and revamped parts of the Ranked system.
SG-12 Dragon’s Breath Receives Major Nerf
According to Treyarch, the SG-12 equipped with Dragon’s Breath ammunition had been “overperforming” and seeing rapidly increasing usage rates across multiplayer.
Season 4 reduces its effectiveness across all damage ranges, lowering both base damage and pellet damage while shortening several effective engagement distances.
The changes are designed to bring the shotgun more in line with other close-range weapon options and reduce its dominance in tight-map encounters.
Equipment Balance Changes
Several pieces of tactical equipment and field upgrades have also received tuning adjustments.
Needle Drone Buffs
The Needle Drone becomes more agile and effective with:
- Increased manual pilot duration
- Faster pitch and yaw controls
- Improved Boost Overclock speed
Black Hat Improvements
The Black Hat has received significant quality-of-life upgrades, including:
- UAVs and Counter UAVs now require only one charge to destroy
- Faster Sentry Turret hijacking
- Faster SAM Turret hijacking
Scrambler Nerfs
To offset its effectiveness, the Scrambler has been toned down through:
- Reduced assist score rewards
- Reduced scrambled score rewards
- Smaller operational radius
Endgame Weapon Changes
Season 4 introduces a wide range of balancing updates aimed at improving weapon diversity during endgame progression.
Sniper Rifles Buffed
Several sniper rifles, including the Strider 300, Hawker HX, and VS Recon, receive a 33% increase to headshot damage in endgame scenarios.
Shadow SK Rebalanced
The Shadow SK gains significant torso damage buffs while its Explosive Bullets Mod receives damage reductions to prevent excessive burst potential.
XR-3 Ion Adjustments
The XR-3 Ion sees reduced headshot damage alongside increases to torso damage, while its Explosive Bullets Mod has been substantially reworked.
Pistol Improvements
Several pistols become more viable in later-game content:
- 1911
- Jager 45
- Velox 5.7
- CODA 9
Each receives damage and range increases after Combat Rating 10, with some weapons also gaining larger magazine capacities.
Marksman Rifle Updates
The Swordfish A1 has had an unintended headshot damage issue corrected, while the M34 Novaline receives a major damage boost to strengthen its role as a slower precision weapon.
Launcher Changes
Launcher balancing includes:
- Reduced damage for the AAROW 109
- Increased damage and faster charge times for the A.R.C. M1
Special Weapon and Melee Buffs
The Siren, NX Ravager, and Knife all receive improvements designed to increase their effectiveness in endgame combat situations.
New Black Ops Classic Playlist
Season 4 introduces Black Ops Classic, a new playlist designed to recreate the feel of earlier Black Ops titles.
The mode removes several modern movement mechanics, including:
- Sliding
- Wall Jumping
- Omnimovement
Players will instead experience slower, more tactical gameplay focused on positioning, gun skill, and map control.
The playlist features a curated selection of iconic maps, including:
- Firing Range
- Raid
- Nuketown
- Summit
Custom loadouts remain available, but within a more restricted and carefully balanced ruleset.
Ranked Play Gets Major Changes
Treyarch is also making important adjustments to the Ranked experience.
No More Hidden MMR
The Ranked Skill Rating system has been updated to remove hidden MMR influences, giving players greater transparency regarding progression and matchmaking.
Party Restrictions Updated
Group restrictions have also been adjusted:
- Crimson-ranked players can once again queue in parties of up to four.
- Iridescent and Top 250 players are limited to duo queues.
These changes aim to improve competitive integrity while providing more flexibility for players climbing the Ranked ladder.
