With Overwatch 2 bringing all sorts of new game modes and maps, players are being forced to devise new plans for their matches. This challenge presented to players has given rise to some interesting team compositions and playstyles. Many Overwatch players, both old and new, are already loyal fans of these new maps and new game modes. However, some are a bit more popular than others. So, to give players a bit of insight as to what their fellow gamers are thinking, here are the 5 game modes in competitive Overwatch, ranked.

#5 Assault

R.I.P to Assault in competitive games. But since it was a classic game mode in Overwatch 1’s competitive scene and a favorite among many players, it deserves some recognition on this list.

#4 Control

While there are plenty of players who love a good control map, like classic Nepal, there are many who find the stress of having to potentially play 3 games might be too much. Especially when paired against a rough enemy team composition and the games are a complete lockout. While other game modes give more potential for a comeback, Control can be irritatingly short or incessantly long. Then, if the game goes into a third match, it just makes it feel that much longer, and when players just want to rank up, those few moments can feel like an eternity of pressure.

#3 Push

Push is the newest game mode to the game, and it has a lot of mixed feedback. Players seem to either love it or hate it. Some say that they love the fact that it is on a set timer. It makes game time more predictable and it offers many opportunities for a comeback. However, there are still a lot of players who feel like the constant running back and forth with the robot is incredibly annoying. Because of that, it has gained a bit of a cult following among diehard fans. it doesn’t have nearly as much support as other maps. since it has such a devoted, yet small, fan base, it deserves a spot at number 3 on this list.

#2 Escort

The fact that some Overwatch 1 maps, like Junkertown, were kept in the update really made players happy. It gave them that sense of nostalgia from the earlier days of the game. Being able to start the game right out of the gate on attack makes things feel much more fast-paced. The pressure of having to break strong defense breeds all sorts of interesting attack compositions. Then, the further or closer players get from their starting point, they have to adopt new strategies. Also, swap heroes so that they can be sure their composition can not only take on their opponents. Make sure that they can properly defend or attack the payload while staying on the point as much as possible.

#1 Hybrid

Finally, the favorite game mode among most Overwatch players is Hybrid. The fact that it brings two of the most popular game modes together makes the experience seem much more dynamic. It gives players a jolt of energy at first when they need to form a strong attack or defense at the first point, which subsides for a more slow-paced game as the payload progresses.

Not only that, but the games are normally a bit more balanced because of the nature of the mode. Players are forced to be more cognitive of their gameplay early on so that they can get the initial push and formulate what to do from there once the payload is moving. For some team compositions, this requires playing a longer game and waiting out the initial assault. For others, it means going full attack mode right out of the games. However, once the payload is captured and begins to move, the game completely changes, and players need to use similar strategies to the escort map and start swapping up their heroes in order to better adapt.

Overall, each Overwatch player will have their own likes and dislikes. After seeing people play the game since it was released, there are definitely sides being chosen. This is what I, and fellow players, have noticed and made conclusions of. Each game mode brings something unique to the game. Each map for these game modes brings an extra element of flavor that some players really enjoy, regardless of what mode it is. This was our top five Overwatch 2 game modes!
