In Baldur’s Gate 3, “What can silence the Nightsong” is a puzzle that players will need to solve in Act 2.
Spoilers ahead for Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3 what can silence the Nightsong
After arriving in the Shadow-Cursed Lands, the player will eventually find their way to the Gauntlet of Shar. Shadowheart’s companion quest, the Cult of the Absolute, the Harpers and Raphael will all direct the player through the Thorm Mausoleum, which conceals the entrance to the Gauntlet.
On the lower floor of the Gauntlet, there will be a large library. Defeat the Justicars guarding the area and disarm the buttons to open the locked gate.
Inside the gate is a pedestal (as well as some gas traps to disarm or avoid). The label reads Riddle of the Night, and the clue is “What can silence the Nightsong?”
In order to solve this riddle, the player will have to check the library’s bookshelves. Be warned that they are trapped and will spray acid on you if you don’t disarm them.
The bookshelves have various loot and lore books, but the one we’re interested in is to the northern wall by the gated area. Disarm and loot the bookshelf to find the book titled Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger.

Reading the book will tell you that the only thing that can silence the Nightsong is Shar.
Take the book and head back to the pedestal. Interact with it to prompt an Insert Item menu.
Open your inventory and place the Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger book into the slot.
This will complete the riddle and open a door at the back of the room. In this room, you’ll find some loot. The most important though is the Spear of Night. This weapon is necessary to kill the Nightsong, and a critical part of Shadowheart’s companion quest.

How do you stop Shadowheart from killing Nightsong?
Once you reach the Nightsong, you’ll find she’s an aasimar named Dame Aylin. The necromancer Balthazar is using her to fuel Ketheric Thorm’s immortality. If you want to kill or save Nightsong, you’ll need to fight him.
Shadowheart will want to kill her as part of her ritual to become a Dark Justicar. Allowing her to do so has major consequences for a Good-aligned character, or a character who wants to romance Shadowheart.
If you want to stop her, the easiest method is simply having high Approval with her.
If you have a good relationship, you can tell Shadowheart to do what she thinks is best and then say you don’t want to lose her. This will let Shadowheart change her mind on her own and spare the Nightsong.
Alternatively, you’ll need to pass a difficult DC 30 Persuasion check. This requires either a Natural 20 or a high roll plus many, many bonuses.
If all else fails, you’ll need to fight Shadowheart to stop her from killing the Nightsong.
