There are several Baldur’s Gate 3 endings which close out the grand adventure through the Sword Coast that determines the future of Faerûn.
The conclusions for various characters and party members depend on decisions taken throughout the game. However, the player decides the ending to the main story in the closing moments of the game.
These are the three primary conclusions to the game.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Endings: Defeat the Absolute
The good ending of the game has the player destroy the Netherbrain and put an end to the Cult of the Absolute once and for all.
This ending requires the party team up with a Mind Flayer. This can be the Emperor or it can be Prince Orpheus or an infected origin character who undergoes ceremorphosis.

The allied Mind Flayer will use the Netherstones to command the Netherbrain to self-destruct and take out its forces. The Netherbrain crashes lifeless into the ocean while the Baldurians rally to defeat the suddenly leaderless and disorientated illithids.
Afterwards, the party will gather at the docks and cutscenes will give individual conclusions to their stories.

Control the Absolute
The evil ending for Baldur’s Gate 3 has a lot of the same requirements as the good ending: take an allied Mind Flayer to the top of the Netherbrain and defeat the Absolute.
Here, if the player has become the mind flayer, they’ll use the Netherstones to control the Absolute instead of destroy it. If it’s the Emperor, Orpheus or a different party member who became the illithid, the player can attack them to take control of the Netherstones.
With the Absolute now under their control, the player will subjugate their party members with the Absolute’s psychic powers so they’re on board with your decision, whether they like it or not.
The Netherbrain then uses a psionic blast to take out the githyanki dragons while mind flayers ravage the city. Triumphant, the player sits on their throne and proclaims that all serve in their name.
Unless of course the player chose the Dark Urge origin and chose to embrace their heritage as a Bhaalspawn. In that case, they gift their world conquest to Bhaal.

The Netherese Explosion
This ending is an abbreviated version of the good ending, and requires Gale sacrifice himself to defeat the Absolute.
As a result, this ending needs the player to progress enough through Gale’s “Wizard of Waterdeep” personal quest to at least the point where they meet his mentor Elminster.
The goddess Mystra will task Gale to use the corruptive and unstable Netherese Orb in his chest to take out the Absolute.

In this ending, the player will need Gale to be in their party when they reach the Netherbrain. Then, instead of climbing up to battle it above the city, Gale will instead offer to give his life to take out the Absolute.
If the player agrees, Gale will teleport the party to safety and then proceed alone. Skipping the final fight, a cutscene will play where Gale confronts the Absolute and then explodes.
The ending will then proceed like the Good Ending, except the Netherbrain will be completely disintegrated instead of falling into the ocean. The party will watch from the docks and comment on Gale’s sacrifice before continuing as normal.
