Blue Dot Games has released the first video in its Developer Tapes series for ‘83. This upcoming 40v40 squad-based tactical FPS takes place in an alternate 1983 where the Cold War erupts into all-out war. The overview video gives players a closer look ahead of the game’s Steam Early Access launch later this year.
A Tactical “What If” Battlefield
‘83 is the spiritual successor to Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, developed by many of the same team members. It explores a “what if” scenario where NATO forces face off against the Warsaw Pact. Battles take place across large, realistic maps. Players will fight in fortified German farmlands, snowy Norwegian fjords, and more.
The game’s weapons are modeled to match real-world performance. Ballistics, penetration, recoil, and handling mirror their real-life counterparts. Period-accurate uniforms, gear, and vehicles add to the authenticity.
Accessible Realism
Blue Dot Games built ‘83 on the idea of “accessible realism.” The team aims for high realism, but without sacrificing fun. Matches last 30–40 minutes. Death takes you out for only a short time, but that downtime can still change the momentum of battle.
Teamwork is critical. Squad Leaders must coordinate strategies and issue quick calls under pressure. Every role matters, whether you’re a front-line rifleman or a commander overseeing the field.
Reviving the Vision
Blue Dot Games is an independent studio with deep experience in tactical shooters. The team has worked on acclaimed titles like Red Orchestra and Rising Storm. In 2023, they acquired the rights to ‘83 after the closure of its original developer, Antimatter Games. Since then, they’ve rebuilt the project with a fresh creative vision and updated technical direction.

. ## Defend Shady Hill From a Zombie Invasion *Dead Party* takes place in Shady Hill, a seemingly peaceful town where a Halloween night takes a disastrous turn after UFOs appear overhead. The strange event triggers a zombie outbreak, leaving four unlikely heroes to defend the neighborhood against the undead invasion. The game focuses on cooperative survival rather than simply eliminating enemies. Players must search their surroundings for resources, break objects to gather materials, construct barricades, and set traps to slow incoming waves. Different zombie types and map layouts will require teams to adapt their defenses as the invasion progresses. Players must coordinate their actions and make effective use of the resources available if they hope to survive. Music also plays a central role in combat. Characters can use guitars and music-based abilities to push back the undead, giving the game a rock-and-roll twist on the familiar zombie survival formula. ## Four Game Modes Offer Different Survival Challenges *Dead Party* features four distinct game modes, each presenting a different approach to defending against the zombie invasion. - **Stage Equipment:** Use stage equipment and music-powered abilities to hold back the undead. - **Antenna:** Activate generators and unleash radio waves to disrupt the invading forces. - **Skull Cannon:** Collect zombie skulls and use them to destroy UFOs. - **Horde:** Forget about escaping and see how long your team can survive against increasingly dangerous zombie waves. Players can also experience the game's Story Mode, which follows four unique characters. Each hero has individual abilities, strengths, weaknesses, equipment, and a personal storyline, giving players different approaches to the game's challenges. ## Online and Local Co-Op Support Designed around four-player cooperation, *Dead Party* supports both online and local co-op. Friends can coordinate defensive strategies, collect resources, and build barricades together as they attempt to withstand the invasion. The combination of environmental interactions, traps, different enemy types, and music-based combat is intended to keep each encounter unpredictable. Teams will need to balance preparation with quick decisions when their defenses begin to fail. With its Halloween-themed setting and cooperative gameplay, *Dead Party* is aiming to offer a different take on zombie survival when it arrives later this month. The game launches on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store on October 29, 2026, with console releases expected in the weeks following its debut.
