Fifa 23 has finally landed! EA and Fifa’s final collaboration together is setting out to end the series with a bang, being delivered with state-of-the-art technologies and all the latest transfers, kits, leagues, and tournaments from the world of football. With the game’s competitive meta still finding its feet, check out Gamelevate for our top 5 Fifa 23 tips for becoming a pro in the early game.
Hone Your Set-Pieces
Dead-ball deliveries have once again been given an overhaul in Fifa ahead of this year’s release. The past few releases have focused on trying to raise the skill bar for free-kicks with more options than ever before, but EA have made a real effort to strip things back in ‘23.
Timing is key as per the previous releases, so work on getting your connection with the ball as close to the green as possible.
Other than that, remember there are always the option of passing the ball short with either a free-kick or a corner.
Jockey The Ball
One of the most common traits we found playing through Fifa 22 was how few people actually protect the ball, especially when defending.
Holding LT/L2 will have your player hunch over the ball, helping to make it far more difficult for the opposition to snatch possession away. This can be especially handy when you find yourself in a tight spot with players around, and not many options to hand.
When defending LT/L2 will enable you to jostle the approaching attacker, making dribbling past that much harder.
Know How To Defend
Whilst on the subject of defending, another really common thing we saw across Fifa 22 was players not knowing how to keep their back-line organized and structured.
The biggest Fifa 23 defending tip we can offer is to try and avoid stepping up with just a single-player-controlled defender and leaving a big space in behind. Both against other players and the AI, oppositions know how to knock a ball through with either a dribble or a quick one-two.
Find Your Formation
Every player has their own way of playing Fifa. Before diving into the competitive circuit of the game, take some time to play against both other players and the AI to get familiar with the gameplay.
Just like with having your own style of play, everyone has that one formation they discover early on in the game and stick with throughout the year. In Fifa 22, we found the 3-5-2 formations to be the most overpowered to use, but EA are always good at mixing things up every year so it’ll be interesting to see what reigns supreme in ‘23.
Training Is Key
In Fifa 23 Career Mode, players have the option of filling up their calendars with training exercises for their side. Players have the option of completing these exercises either via simming or doing them manually; but whilst we wouldn’t recommend wasting hours of your time doing them all yourself, the odd one could help you learn something new.
A game mode like Squad Battles in Fifa 23 Ultimate Team is also a great of getting to grips with the game. Played solely against the AI, players can choose their difficulty and which opponents they come up against, bagging some cool prizes for their efforts on the pitch for good measure.
