While some Overwatch players may frown upon Hanzo mains, the fact remains that, when put in the hands of an experienced player, he can wreak havoc on the enemy team. With his high level of mobility and strong damage output, he makes for a good champion to look for when players are looking to up their game knowledge. While he may be incredibly strong when played correctly, he still has weak spots. In order to help players better find those weaknesses, here are 3 Overwatch heroes that counter Hanzo.
Hanzo counter #3: Genji
Similar to Hanzo, Genji is a fairly hard hero to play correctly. However, when a more experienced player is looking for a good counter to Hanzo, Genji is at the top of the list. With his Deflect ability, he can easily get around Hanzo’s flurry of attacks. Then, once Genji is close enough, he can easily use his Swift Strike to Maneuver around his enemy so that they won’t know where he is striking from. Since Hanzo isn’t the best at close quarters combat, this puts Genji at a huge advantage.
Another advantage that Genji has when facing a Hanzo is his Cyber-Agility. This passive ability allows him to climb up walls and double jump, both things that Hanzo can also do. This means that if Genji needs to chase his enemy up walls or across large gaps, he can do it with ease. Then, once Genji has caught up, he can easily use his Dragonblade ability to finish him off, allowing his team to safely push for an objective.
Hanzo counter #2: Winston
Winston is perhaps one of the best possible tanks to pick into a matchup against a Hanzo. The main reason for this is because he is by far the most mobile tank in the game. This means that if Hanzo is camping in a hard-to-reach place and none of Winston’s other teammates can get to him, a simple Jump Pack can close that gap. Then, once Winston is close enough, he can enter combat with Hanzo. It is important to keep in mind that, because he excels at close-quarters combat, where Hanzo does not, Winston won’t have to worry too much about dying, and there are a few reasons for this.
One of these reasons is because Winston is very tanky. This means that he can survive the attacks Hanzo throws at him and still be able to continue the fight. Another reason is that he can also deal a lot of non-targeted damage with his Tesla Cannon, meaning that even with all of Hanzo’s mobility, he cannot escape the attacks. Then, once his ultimate is charged up, Winston can easily go into Primal Rage and take out Hanzo and the rest of his team with little resistance.
Hanzo counter #1: Widowmaker
When it comes to countering Hanzo, sometimes the best option is much more simple than it may seem. Some players prefer fighting in the fray and getting into close-combat 1v1 fights. However, others find that the classic counter-sniper option is much more reliable, and Widowmaker offers just that. Hanzo is normally trying to put himself into positions that are hard for most other heroes to get to and kills opponents from afar, making him difficult to deal with. However, Widowmaker knows how to handle herself in this matchup.
By using her Grappling Hook, she can mimic Hanzo and get herself into a place that is hard to reach, allowing her to provide support for her team and allow them to push forward. Hanzo most certainly won’t like this, so he will focus his efforts to kill Widowmaker. However, this may present an issue for him. This is because, while Widowmaker can shoot from any distance, Hanzo’s arrows curve down the further they travel. This means that as long as she keeps her distance, Widowmaker can easily make multiple attempts to kill him and his team while he is forced to either take an unfavorable fight against her or remain useless.
