3 Overwatch heroes that counter Genji
When Overwatch players get into a game against a good Genji player, it may seem like all is lost. This hero is difficult to master, but those who have done it can easily win their team games. With his high mobility and burst damage, he can take out almost any hero when played correctly. However, no matter how dark it may seem, he can still be beaten. By picking certain heroes into this matchup, players can get an advantage against this hard-hitting hero. In order to help players better pick into him, here are 3 Overwatch heroes that counter Genji.
Genji counter #3: Roadhog
When going into a match against a burst damage hero like Genji, Roadhog is an ideal tank for the situation. While it may seem like Genji can just run through him, trying to do that will leave the enemy hero exposed to attacks. In order to deal damage, Genji will have to get fairly close to Roadhog. However, because Roadhog excels in close-quarters combat, that works to his advantage. Once Genji gets into attack range, Roadhog can easily use his Scrap Gun or Chain Hook to take Genji out before he can even dash away.
Even if things do start to look bad for Roadhog and he starts losing a lot of health, he can easily use his Take a Breather to refill himself back up to full health so that he can get back into the fight. It is important to note that if Genji can activate his Dragonblade, Roadhog may be in trouble; because of that, it is best that he takes his enemy out before he can break through his defenses.
Genji counter #2: Zarya
When looking for a tank hero that can support their team against a menace like Genji, Zarya is a perfect fit. This is because of her Particle Barrier and Projected Barrier, and if Genji decides he wants to go after Zarya and take her out, she can easily shield herself to negate the damage and force her opponent to attack elsewhere. However, that will also present a problem for Genji. Since Zarya can also shield allies, when Genji eventually tries to take out someone else, she can easily shield them. This way, Genji’s time is wasted and Zarya and her allies can gang up on him to put him out of the equation.
Another useful bit about Zarya is her Graviton Surge. Genji is incredibly mobile, allowing him to dash around and surprise opponents with an ambush. However, when Genji eventually groups up with his team for a final attack, she can easily use this ability to lock down Genji and his allies so that they are left useless, allowing Zarya and her team to defend the checkpoint and score a win.
Genji counter #1: Mei
When looking for a damage-dealing hero to go into Genji, the choices may seem difficult. It would take a player with extreme precision to pick some heroes, while others just simply don’t fit the bill. However, Mei is an ideal hero to pick into this matchup. With her Endothermic Blaster, she can easily slow Genji if he gets too close, freezing him in place so that Mei and her allies can take him out before he can cause any more trouble.
Even if things start looking bad for Mei, she can easily use her Cryo-Freeze to make herself invulnerable and heal herself for some health so that, even if Genji uses his Dragonblade, Mei will be protected. Even in the final stages of the game, when players start to get desperate, Mei can use her Blizzard so that, when Genji inevitably goes wild in a final attempt to win, she can stop him dead in his tracks so that her team can secure the win.
