100 Thieves Academy lifted the LCS Proving Grounds trophy by beating Team Liquid Academy in the final stage with a score of 3-2.
100 Thieves are having their best year so far in the franchise history. The organization managed to win the LCS trophy a couple of weeks ago and guaranteed themselves a spot in the Worlds 2021 Group Stage. Now, their academy team, 100 Thieves Academy, won the LCS Proving Grounds trophy by beating Team Liquid Academy in the finals.
100 Thieves Academy formed a contender team before the start of the season and showed great performance throughout the season. They acquired the Turkish wonderkid Fatih “Luger” Güven, Phillippe “Poome” Lavoie-Giguere, and Tommy “ry0ma” Le. The team kept Milan “Tenacity” Oleksij and Shane “Kenvi” Kenneth Espinoza to complete their 2021 LCS Academy League Summer Season roster. However, 100 Thieves decided to play with the experienced top laner Noh “Gamsu” Yeong-jin, and Maximilian “Chad” Lisitsa in the finals.
Unfortunately, the newly formed team faced a tough loss against Team Liquid Academy in the NA Academy 2021 Summer Playoffs Semifinals. Even though they lost, 100 Thieves still kept their heads up. As their chemistry got better, 100 Thieves Academy showed their true power in the Proving Grounds Finals against Team Liquid. After a nail-biting final series, 100 Thieves Academy lifted the trophy in five games.
What is Proving Grounds?
Proving Grounds is a great opportunity for the upcoming talents as they can show their skills against academy players. There is a small chance that they could even match with experienced players. Wildcard Red had Noh “Arrow” Dong-hyeon in their roster, and he played in both LCK and LCS for years. This year, LCS Academy representatives looked a lot stronger than the amateur teams.
After winning two titles in North America, 100 Thieves now turned their attention to Worlds 2021. The tournament will start in a couple of days with the play-in stage.
