North American representatives 100 Thieves opened their Valorant Champions Tour Stage 3 Berlin Masters campaign with a comfortable 2-0 series win over Brazilian outfit Havan Liberty. The map veto saw 100 Thieves pick Ascent while Havan Liberty gravitated towards Icebox, with Haven selected as the potential decider.
Havan Liberty burst onto the A site uncontested, planted the spike, and defended the plant to win the pistol. 100 Thieves almost bagged a thrifty on the back of a coordinated A short smoke push on the back of Skye’s Guiding Light. 100T finally got themselves on the board, punishing Havan’s A short aggression after the Brazilians took over the A site uncontested once again. A good read from Joshua “steel” Nissan saw 100T level the scoreline at 2-2. The NA representatives soon took over the entire half, eking out rounds and grabbing a 6-2 lead.
100T found themselves at a one-man disadvantage on the B retake. But, Ethan “Ethan” Arnold produced one of the nastiest aim transfers of the event, copping a quad-kill to enable the retake. Havan responded finally, capitalizing on a few errors and whiffs from 100T to win their third round. However, 100T continued to rely on their retakes at A, ending the half with a 9-3 lead. The game resumed at 8-3 after a technical timeout, with Havan’s request to replay the 12th round granted by the officials. 100T though, ran the clock down enough to ensure the 9-3 scoreline is restored.
Havan’s mid aggression was met with a quick control of A site by 100T, with a 4v4 post-plant ensuing. steel rescued the round for 100T with a triple-kill 1v1 clutch with the Classic. A quick B split through the Market area forced Havan into a three-man save attempt. However, 100T hunted them down to bring up the map point and decimate Havan’s economy. Another quick execute, this time a full-blown B rush, got 100T control of the site uncontested, with Nicholas “nitr0” Cannella’s crucial double kill allowing 100T to close out Ascent 13-3.
Ethan was magnificent for 100T, using his utility kit to retake control of areas with ease. His quad-kill on the 9th round prevented a Havan comeback in the first half.
A triple kill from Asuna shut down Havan’s A execute to bag the pistol for 100T. The Defenders raced to a 4-0 lead, thanks to Asuna’s signature rope aggression. Havan finally opened their account, punishing nitr0’s aggression towards B. However, nitr0 made up for it with a 1v1 clutch on the retake at A to make it 5-1 for 100T. Rodrigo “myssen” Myssen used Viper’s Pit to gain control of B site. Some wonderful movement in and around the pit allowed him to get a triple kill to double Havan’s tally on Icebox.
Havan caught wind of 100T’s early aggression and punished them bit by bit, making it a one-round game at 5-4. However, 100T won the 10th round, shutting down Havan’s mid control and B execute, with Asuna’s snappy triple-kill on the flank during the A retake making it 7-4. Another clean round saw them end the half with an 8-4 lead.
Gabriel “shion” Vilela one-upped Asuna’s performance on the pistol, with a quad-kill on the A aggression to win the pistol for Havan. 100T made their superior buy work with a mid-B split to make it 9-6. Spencer “hiko” Martin clutched a 1v2 post-plant with 15 Health Points to further extend 100T’s lead. Ethan opened up the B site with a double kill to put 100T two rounds away from the series win. 100T baited out Havan’s rotation towards B, with steel catching Gustavo “krain” Melara off-guard to take control of A. They defended the plant successfully to bring up the match point. 100T chose to burst onto A, with an array of ultimates allowing them to defend the plant and secure a 13-6 win on Icebox.
Asuna’s aggression helped 100T establish an early lead on Icebox. Havan just couldn’t read 100T’s attacking movement, leading to the 13-6 defeat on the map.
This marks the end of Day 1 of VCT Stage 3 Berlin Masters, with all of the favorites recording a win. 100T will now face the winner of the match between Gambit Esports and Crazy Raccoon. Havan will wait for the loser of the same match in the Group C eliminator.
